Eye blinking is almost always involuntary, just a natural reaction to lubricate the eyes. However, you could force blink whenever you want.

Re: Why do we have unique fingerprints?

Why do we have unique fingerprints? Is this evidence to support Kamma Vipaka? I heard a Christian minister say that all fingerprints are unique and that this "proves" that we have a soul created by God. So I looked it up and actually there is a possibility that at least one other person (or primate...

Re: Did Buddha say "let forget the words, let the meaning have remained"?

Did Buddha say "let's forget the words, let the meaning have remained, or something similar"? If yes, which Sutta? It sounds like a fake Buddha quote, but perhaps might be a (bad) paraphrase of: " Monks, these two slander the Tathagata. Which two? He who explains a discourse whose meaning needs to ...

It's okay to post in non-English languages, but to include the English translation with it. I got this from google translate: Comment Review - How did the inconsistencies in the comments come about? Commentary Review 9 - How did the inconsistencies in the comments come about? In Science, Tripitaka, ...

Re: Can we accept secular Buddhism as Buddhism?

... Puggalavada views . Good link. Now I'm confused and don't know what's the difference between Theravada, Pudgalavada and Secular buddhism. May be Orthodox, Heterodox and Paradox respectively. Or alternatively, Theravada = no self or not self Pudgalavada = impermanent self Secular buddhism = who ...

Re: Definition of the phrase "Excessive posting" (in ToS3j)

I don't think we need any further revisions to that rule or any others at this time. As always and as retro noted, you can still report a post you believe is violating one of the terms of service. If someone is "chasing" you or bothering you, you could place them on foes list so that you don't see t...

Re: Rhys Davids, Horner, Geiger - All these theories can not be allowed to pass without comment.

same can be asked back: why should we believe Rhys Davids over him ? Yes, question all of them. I looked at their analysis, it makes sense (to me). Is Bowden, Asian? Oh, In case it was, would you be reluctant to accept his arguments over Rhys Davids ??? Regards. Of course not; why would that matter...

Re: Rhys Davids, Horner, Geiger - All these theories can not be allowed to pass without comment.

In this book, Russell Bowden says that the chronological theories of European-based scholars such as Rhys Davids, Horner, Geiger ..etc are not based on known facts. Then the EBT book list may subject to change. Who is Russell Bowden and why should we believe him over Rhys Davids, et al? And what's ...

Re: Jesus is the Only Way?

Are you saying that all, or most, NDE accounts are from people with those three main motivations? One of those reasons or all of the above. But there may be a small percent who really did see something in their NDE; it may have been a dream state or some other subconscious thinking coming through.

Re: Ants 🐜 (Consciousness & Self-awareness)

Here's a pretty good short video outlining some of the arguments for and against insects experiencing pain. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AsJreKgyhbY I agree with the narrator, that pain warns us of danger, of noxious things that could kill us; so it would be unlikely for a species to survive mill...

Re: Ants 🐜 (Consciousness & Self-awareness)

Interesting, I didn't know there was such a wide range of views on if insects felt pain. I had always assumed that they did feel pain. I'm not an entomologist, but have always noticed insects tend to squirm and look irritated when they are harmed, for example if you accidentally partially step on th...
