Re: Revisiting The Buddha's Ethnicity

But with the presence of people of Caucasian genes for 1000 years or more by the time of Buddha in the Indian sub-continent, they might as well be considered to belong to what is nowadays called the Indian sub-continent. (Though the term "Indian sub-continent" did not exist during the tim...

Re: Revisiting The Buddha's Ethnicity

This woman is a Brahmin. Where do you think her "blue eyes" came from? From her parents and grandparents. Just because current Indians have a certain look, doesn't necessarily mean all Indians 2,600 years ago looked the same. Nor does it mean they looked different; we can't know for sure....

Sam Vara wrote: Sun Nov 26, 2023 9:11 pm Does the quote from Revelation 22 refer to Yahweh? He was a tad tribal, and by the time of Revelation he seems to have given up his insistence on circumcision and exclusivity.
Is Yahweh circumcised? If no, why not? His son (Jesus) got circumcised.

Inquiring minds want to know.

Re: Revisiting The Buddha's Ethnicity

Why speculate only on the racial (physical, genetic) origin of The Buddha? I agree, but it's a hobby of kusula's. The only "evidence" for blue eyes, afaik, is from the 32 marks. And as we can see from the 32 marks, some are quite monstorous looking, so likely were meant as allegory or sym...

Come back, O Tigers!, to the woods again, and let it not be leveled with the plain. For without you, the axe will lay it low. You, without it, forever homeless go. —Khuddaka Patha https://inquiringmind.com/article/1202_35_teachings_fronsdal/ This is quoted from the Khuddakapatha, but I have not see...

Re: Western Buddhism

Suffering. Impermanence. No-self. Sense desires are like a poisonous snake. (MN22) Cessation. Nibbana is non-existence or non-existence as we know it. Compare to some Abrahamic belief systems. Drink wine and be festive. Be fruitful and multiply. Heaven is eternal happiness. Heaven is beautiful water...

Re: Western Buddhism

In the U.K. the number of Buddhists has risen, but it’s rather anaemic. Non-religious is the fastest growing here, which I think is the same for the rest of Europe. Islam of course is gaining a lot of ground, behind the atheists. I think it's about the same in the U.S. too. I went to a Vesak progra...

Re: Western Buddhism

See this interesting table about the future of religion: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Growth_of_religion#Future_change Actually, Buddhism is doing pretty good with about 3.3 million converting into Buddhism between now and year 2050. Problem is that about 6.2 million will convert out, making it a n...

Maha means "great" as in Maha Maya.

What does rahath mean? Google gives no relevant results, nor suttacentral.

You mean from his youtube page here: https://www.youtube.com/@BeingUntangled

It doesn't say, but I assume it's the same person who is posting here in this thread and in the OP.

Re: Anagarika Dharmapala (1864-1933)

It was reported that just before he died in Sarnath in 1933 he said, I would like to be reborn twenty-five more times to spread Lord Buddha’s Dhamma.
