Re: Brahmacharia / Celibacy in Pali

The word brahmacariya is explained in the Pali commentaries as having different meanings.
See this passage in the commentary to Mangala sutta
https://tipitaka.theravada.su/node/table/21803

So celibacy is only one of the meanings.
There is also somewhat different explanation in the commentary to DN 2.

Good recordings of pali chanting

Because of bad health I decided to find good recordings of important suttas in Pali, so I can listen to them whenever I have the time, especially if my health gets even worse. I choose these suttas: MN 148, MN 143, MN 10, AN 10.60. Searching on Youtube I surprisingly found that for some there is no ...

Re: ven. Nyanamoli translation of Visuddhimagga is now aligned with pali sources

Sādhu! I see the patimokha is based on Ṭhānissaro translation. How much of it was translated, and how much did you have to fill in yourself? I did not translate anything myself. I took the text of Bhikkhu Patimokkha from this page https://www.dhammatalks.org/vinaya/bhikkhu-pati.html Then I found th...

Re: ven. Nyanamoli translation of Visuddhimagga is now aligned with pali sources

We are in the process of aligning Bhikkhu Patimokkha and Bhikkhuni Patimokkha so we can quote and link directly to the individual rules. Both patimokkhas are located in Vinaya Tika in a collection called Dvemātikāpāḷi. As the name suggests, it should contain only two patimokkhas, but I see other tex...

Re: ven. Nyanamoli translation of Visuddhimagga is now aligned with pali sources

Here is an update on our pali texts alignment works. In addition to entire Visuddhimagga we now have fully aligned DN, MN, Vinayapitaka Mahavagga, Petakopadesa, Khuddakapatha commentary. Some texts were aligned partially: Patisambhidamagga, Cariyapitaka commentary, Milindapanha, some other commentar...

Re: ven. Nyanamoli translation of Visuddhimagga is now aligned with pali sources

I have finished the alignment work for most part of Khuddakapatha commentary by ven. Nyanamoli. https://tipitaka.theravada.su/toc/translations/21762 There are some notes about this work: 1. Unlike Visuddhimagga translation, I did not add the footnotes available in ven. Nyanamoli's book. However, if ...

Re: ven. Nyanamoli translation of Visuddhimagga is now aligned with pali sources

I could also align the Khuddakapatha commentary translated by the same author. It has some very important word definitions. To do that I need a good quality English text of the book in plain text form. I found it here https://archive.org/details/PaliCommentariesCollection there is even a plain text...

Re: ven. Nyanamoli translation of Visuddhimagga is now aligned with pali sources

If you're looking for other nanamoli translations to do, line up with the pali, how about KN Pe Petakopadesa, or KN Niddesa I and II, or KN Ps patisambhidimagga? This work requires a plain text version of the book. For example, I have patisambhidimagga scan in a pdf file, but I cannot extract text ...

Re: ven. Nyanamoli translation of Visuddhimagga is now aligned with pali sources

I could also align the Khuddakapatha commentary translated by the same author. It has some very important word definitions. For example, this definition of sikkhāpada shows that it is not a precept or a rule at all: https://tipitaka.theravada.su/node/table/21777 To do that I need a good quality Engl...

ven. Nyanamoli translation of Visuddhimagga is now aligned with pali sources

I finally finished this work https://tipitaka.theravada.su/toc/translations/32878 My goal was to make it available for search, so now we can search for any word in Pali or in English and if it is present in the Visuddhimagga, it will be easy to find the translation. This is especially important sinc...

Re: Pali Resources

https://tipitaka.theravada.su is now an open source project! I shared its source code at https://github.com/khantibalo/tipitaka Initially, my goal was to make a web interface to Chattha Sanghayana Tipitaka, that is a most comprehensive collection of Pali texts. Keeping all the texts in a database ma...

Most of the things you mention are in the canon.
OK, show us where it is the Pali Canon (sutta number, PTS page number).

Re: A manual of the Dhamma by Ledi Sayadaw

There is also an interesting fact that the current tradition of monks reciting the three refuges and five training rules to the laypeople has no basis in the Pali Canon. There are neither recorded instances where the Buddha or his disciples do this nor a permission for that in the Vinaya. There is e...
