Re: what are your thoughts on taking psychotropic medications for mood disorders?

He usually means a different trauma -- a traumatic event in the past. Acute PTSD, like in veterans of the war, is almost always absolutely uncurable by the mind alone. But yes, with the Ayahuasca it's treatable. I've listened a lot to Gabor, and a few other specialists on trauma treatment, and neve...

Re: Mental Fog

It's a very difficult condition, I had it for several years and only recently seem to have gotten back to normal. Very debilitating state that practically renders you disabled (for any serious work or other sustained effort). In my case it was a combination of therapy, medications, exercise, yoga, m...

Re: what are your thoughts on taking psychotropic medications for mood disorders?

This is hearsay, but many monks that fled Tibet, after being tortured in prison, do not have symptoms of PTSD. This is attributed to meditation practice. I cannot give you a citation, but I'm pretty sure this is true. Looks very believable, as only about 15% of veterans develop PTSD: Operations Ira...

Re: what are your thoughts on taking psychotropic medications for mood disorders?

The mind knows its way home and can lead you there. Sometimes id does, and sometimes it doesn't. When it doesn't, it's a psychological disease, and the mind can't heal itself on its own. ADHD is not a psychological disease, but rather a variety of norm. Schizophrenia, depression, PTSD etc. are dise...

Re: what are your thoughts on taking psychotropic medications for mood disorders?

Psychological diseases are treated by psychological measures : psychotherapy, psychiatry, psychoactive drugs. It is not a philosophical question, it's medical. And sometimes they get it right, and sometimes they do even more harm to the patients. They hardly go to the root cause, but focuses in on ...

Re: what are your thoughts on taking psychotropic medications for mood disorders?

Psychological diseases are diseases like physical/bodily ones. They need to be treated in the same way : with therapy, medications etc. Another reason why they are diseases/illnesses is that you cannot heal them yourself. For instance, in your case, you likely cannot get out of depression on you own...

Re: Ajahn Pannobhasa is disrobing

The ideal Buddhist system is monarchy, rather than democracy or degenerate Fascism. Obviously we don’t live in an ideal world but we can still aim for stability and moderate conservatism so as to have the next best of societies if we wish to be political (something I’m personally becoming less conc...

Re: Ajahn Pannobhasa is disrobing

Ven. Dhammanando's views were likely shaped by the Realpolitik of the Thai Sangha, Not at all. I was an apolitical quietist throughout my first 9-year stay in Thailand. I became a conservative later, during four years out of the robes while living in Iceland. And my outlook was shaped by my own rea...

Re: Ajahn Pannobhasa is disrobing

To say that Buddhist ideals are "democratic" is a stretch, and is much of a perversion (although, admittedly, a more benign one) of the apolitical Dhamma as to connect it with fascism. Hardly you would be able to persuade in that G.P. Malalsekera, who was an unexcellled expert in Buddhism, Buddhist...

... Ven. Re: Nibbana. Are we chasing a mirage?

Buddha created the whole thing only so there are Arahants in the world.

There are Arahants, I've met them and studied under them.

This is the only thing that matters in a real Buddhism: find Arahants to potentially become Arahants.

Don't take ridiculous mythology for real. It has nothing to do with Buddhism.
