Re: first jhana really can be this easy (35 sec. video demonstration)

Buddhaghosa was not an arahant... he even wished for a good rebirth (although apologists will say that the wish was put in by someone else). There is no need to repeat discredited smears of Ven. Buddhaghosa. Indeed, those who say such things are literally lying by this point, unless they are extrao...

Re: Looking for an article on the 4 Noble Truths

You are welcome. My comment as a Buddhist scholar: Again, from C. Anderson's book: "However, the four noble truths do not always appear in stories of the Buddha's enlightenment where we might expect to find them. Who cares "where we might expect to find them"... We know nothing or almost nothing...

Re: Looking for an article on the 4 Noble Truths

If you are interested in the philological analysis of the wording of the 4NT, then in this article K.R. Norman (one of the greatest Pāli philologists ever) argues that the term ariya-sacca , "the truth of the noble one(s)" (commonly known as "noble truth") was added later to those four descriptions ...

Re: Looking for an article on the 4 Noble Truths

"... the four noble truths were probably not part of the earliest strata of what came to be recognized as Buddhism, but that they emerged as a central teaching in a slightly later period that still preceded the final redactions of the various Buddhist canons." this often cited passage is in C. Ander...

Re: Risk of taking vaccine jab

My dad is currently in hospital under the oxygen mask (he is doing better already). The more people take the vaccine, the less coughing and sneezing, the less danger for older people like him.

Re: micchādhimokkho/viparitādhimokkho (Abhidhamma question)

For negative applications of the term in the suttas it would be better to look at the use of its source verb, adhimuccati, and its past participle adhimutta. As for the noun, see its use in the chapter on paticcasamuppāda in the Abhidhamma's Vibhanga and its commentary. Bhante, thanks for your sugg...

Re: Money with jhana

The stories about rich people getting stream-entry are obviously a bait for the rich people to donate to the saṅgha. We should take them as such.

Re: micchādhimokkho/viparitādhimokkho (Abhidhamma question)

http://www.vipassana.info/cetasikas11.html Since adhimokkha is one of the "particulars" it accompanies cittas of the four jartis and thus it can be kusala, akusala, vipaka or kiriya as we have seen, the "particulars" do not arise with every citta That was not my question, I am perfectly aware about...

micchādhimokkho/viparitādhimokkho (Abhidhamma question)

Dear Abhidhamma specialists, I wonder if you know if the concept adhimokkha is used somewhere in the Abhidhamma treatises in negative sense, as a wrong adhimokkha (like micchā-adhimokkha )? I find it in negative sense only in the late materials of the ṭīkā level and younger: micchādhimokkho . Maybe ...

He usually means a different trauma -- a traumatic event in the past. Acute PTSD, like in veterans of the war, is almost always absolutely uncurable by the mind alone. But yes, with the Ayahuasca it's treatable. I've listened a lot to Gabor, and a few other specialists on trauma treatment, and neve...

Re: Mental Fog

It's a very difficult condition, I had it for several years and only recently seem to have gotten back to normal. Very debilitating state that practically renders you disabled (for any serious work or other sustained effort). In my case it was a combination of therapy, medications, exercise, yoga, m...
