Re: Ajahn Jayasāro Cave Retreat

I googled to look for the OP, didn't find anything yet, but found this which is pretty nice Tibetan nun (English woman) lived for 12 years in a cave, 3 years in solitary retreat http://notesonthedhamma.blogspot.com/2022/09/tibetan-nun-english-woman-lived-for-12.html And this: Ajahn Jayasaro on the j...

Joe maybe already answered your question. Of course I recognize a portion of my blog posting, but I have thousands of posts, and I don't know which one and exactly what specific issue you were questioning. The blog of mine you quoted, the jhana pali/chinese you screen capped, that's not analayo's tr...

I don't understand your question. What's wrong with WHICH translation, what WHAT do you think is wrong with it? Also, please post the links to the full source. I can't tell from screen shots where the source you're quoting from is. Hi frank , i try to figure out whats wrong with the translation . Co...

Yeah, I noticed in some places he does translate that way ('onlooking equanimty'), but I think in others he does go with 'equanimty'.

will answer more thoroughly in the next few days. the quick one, 7sb and 4j upekkha are exactly the same. in 4bv, the pre Buddhist 4bv does not lead to nirvana, so upekkha there the wisdom of equanimous-observation would be limited to seeing rebirth and karma, but one has incomplete right view or ev...

Re: Hindrances increase after strong concentration?

Hello all, I have read somewhere that there is a tendency to over-react after one was in deep state of concentration. Is there a reason for that? How to avoid it? Thanks. developing samādhi well gives you power, higher quality in whatever the focus of your attention is, more force (both physical an...

what should i do, friends? :anjali: It's not clear what your ultimate goal is here, but if it is to move towards pure brahmacariya and celibacy, 1. quit your gym membership, whatever exercises you want to do, you can do cheaply and on your own. For example, gymnastic rings cost 50$ for a decent pai...

What does 'Classical Theravāda' mean when LBT commentary contradicts Abhidhamma Vb? I'm in favor of people believing in whatever Buddhism they want, mahayana, theravada, Vism., etc. But we should be clear eyed when we find contradictions and not hold untenable views like, "The Theravada comment...

... Thanks, the Vism. and cmy should be exactly the same, so I'll check the vism. for the Eng. But as to what it actually means in that standard formula, it's not clear what it means to spread a citta of metta to 'all beings as to oneself.' That interpretation would not work in SN 46.54, where the ...

Re: Metta as taught by the Buddha in EBT

... The term, Brahma-vihara, is not found in the mentioned SN texts. The 4 formulas (immeasurables) are not called Brahma-vihara in the texts. I know Ab Vb calls them Ab Vb 13 Appamaññā-vibhaṅga "immeasurables", but I don't think the EBT's give that formula any name. It just appears about...
