Re: Was the Buddha a blue-eyed light skinned Aryan?

The texts say he had blue eyes so he could have had blue eyes. The texts say nīlaḥ , (black, dark-blue). In Ancient india it is mostly "black". Is black eyes even an existing eye color? And yes I agree. It could not actually say he has blue eyes. Just as Maha moggallana being described as blue skin...

Re: Was the Buddha a blue-eyed light skinned Aryan?

[Already in its origins, those ancient Aryan tribes were diverse and with different physical appearence. And they were mixed across the times. When we arrive to Buddha times we find the obvious word "Sakya" which for sure has some relation with the ancient "Sakka". Although at that time the physica...

Re: Was the Buddha a blue-eyed light skinned Aryan?

The Indo-European expansion to the East is not a 19-th century myth. The Scythian and other Iranic tribes are recorded by the ancient Greeks and Chinese. Are you telling me that Caucasian looking people in places like Iran all the way to Western China is nothing more than a fabrication and that blo...

Re: Was the Buddha a blue-eyed light skinned Aryan?

Razib Khan is a well respected geneticist and an expert when it comes to Indo-European origins... if you can't afford to sit through 25:45, skip to the main point of the video, which starts at 11:40-15:40... And if you can't sit through 4 minutes, here's the main point... Yes, the Aryans were "Whit...

Re: Was the Buddha a blue-eyed light skinned Aryan?

… The OP has stated that skin color is a factor in the decision to undertake the practice. Is that why you’re so adamant about it as well? Or are you mainly interested in historical accuracy? I’m just trying to understand the significance - not for any other reason than to clarify the implication t...

Re: Was the Buddha a blue-eyed light skinned Aryan?

Everyone who is posting here light-featured Indians (and for some reason Afghani-s -- which is a totally different story, "white" people have been living there for millennia) -- just go to India/Pakistan/Nepal and see everything with your eyes. Indians are not light-featured. All these photos is ex...

Re: Was the Buddha a blue-eyed light skinned Aryan?

My post from another thread No, the Buddha was not black. The sakkyans were indo-aryan nomads who settled in northern India, although some texts state they were not aryan but himalayan. This was probably his ethnicity https://i.imgur.com/dmrjtPr.jpg Caucasian, indian asian mix, similar to northern ...

Re: Was the Buddha a blue-eyed light skinned Aryan?

He was born right on the border of India (more Caucasian looking people) and Nepal (more Asian looking people). Likely he was of a mixed race. Some Pāli sources call him black-skinned ( kaṇha ). No sources as far as I know identify him as white Caucasian with blue eyes. The Irish weren't considered...

Re: Was the Buddha a blue-eyed light skinned Aryan?

I assume he would have been as I've seen Indians which are virtually indistinguishable from Europeans but not as many nowadays it has to be said. A picture(s) is worth more than a thousand words. According to geneticists the warrior/aristocratic caste(Kshatriya) and priestly caste(Brahmin) have a c...
