Then you will probably find more success going on airb&b rather than asking on a global Buddhist form, since you aren't actually looking for something Buddhist. There are probably people renting out cabins close to where you are.

Re: Kuti/Meditation Hut for Rent?

Are you just interested in spending time at a monastery? Or are you hoping to have a quite personal space where you do your own thing? Because they will be very different in terms of options. The first is usually free. The second you just would need to rent a cabin somewhere and make your own food. ...

Re: Does anyone know the name of the Sutta about unintentional patracide?

It appears there is already a long thread with a very closely related question. Here is where answers start to come: https://www.dhammawheel.com/viewtopic.php?p=391363#p391363 I haven't read through the whole thread, but this seems relevant: This is what Anguttara Nikaya Attakatha (commentaries) say...

Re: EBTs about jīvaka the surgeon

Mike is correct to point you to the chapter on robes in the Vinaya (last link). People assume it's the medicine chapter we would learn about him. But it is all (if I remember correctly) in the robes chapter. Fun fact: He was the first lay person to offer robes, that's why he ended up in the robes ch...

Re: let not quote huge blocks of texts

I'm also not a fan of people's signatures being 3x as long as their post.

There are a couple if plugins already written that could help with the quoting thing. One that turns long quotes into a scrollable section. And one that lets you select what you want to quote before you click reply.

Re: Keep away from Mahamuna sect in Sri Lanka?

As someone else suggested, you really ought to go to one of their monasteries and talk with the monks there. Venerable Gnanananda does not reject the Abhidhamma. This is a common misconception. He just doesn't use it in his public teaching, I think because he feels it is not useful for people. Or at...

Re: Keep away from Mahamuna sect in Sri Lanka?

It appears only Mahamenua has an additional code of conduct except Vinaya. Please stop spreading unfounded rumors. Any group of monks will have community standards that they follow. They chant in Sinhalese. In my opinion, this is OK with laypeople, but monks should learn Pali. Seriously? Do you thi...

Re: The underlying meaning of the five precepts

Have you encountered any work that approaches the precepts as the relationship between the following concepts: No. I think you are trying to layer something on top of the precepts that doesn't exist. According to the suttas, the five precepts exist even outside of the Buddha's teaching. The Buddha ...

Re: Does procrastination break the precepts?

Working hard is not a value in and of itself. To me it sounds like a protestant ethics thing. We don't have that over here :D The Buddha does talk about the duties of an employer to and employee and vice versa. You may like to read the Sigālovāda Sutta. Here is the relevant section, although the wh...

Re: Does procrastination break the precepts?

If you have doubts about following them, don't take them, or only take the ones you can keep. This is not advice we get from the Buddha. It also sets up a very odd situation. Let's say you overestimate yourself and think you can keep them so you take the precepts. But then (because you are not a st...

Re: Does procrastination break the precepts?

I hope it's clear that I meant I procrastinate a lot during work hours So your thinking is that by not doing your work you are stealing your paycheck instead of earning it? I'd have to give that a solid no for the stealing precept. We don't get much detail in the suttas, but when we do it's about t...
