Re: Puredhamma.net Warning !!!

I have encountered many warnings circulating as below about this PureDhamma website, Waharaka Abhayaratanalankara Thero, Dharmayai Obai, Walasmulle abhaya Thero ..etc by many Sri Lankans. I have no time to read about it and investigate everything, but it seems like a serious matter. You can check t...

Re: Bhikkhu Bodhi: Reading the Buddha's Discourses in Pali: A Practical Guide to the Language of the Ancient Buddhist Ca

I recently bought this on kindle. This is the first Pali book that I actually enjoy working through. The layout - with short extracts of suttas interspersed with direct corresponding word translations, and followed up with the way Bodhi translates the same passage is exactly what the grammatically ...

The Buddha said that he held nothing back - no closed fist - in his teaching. So, according to Buddhism, no. It's a teaching about Buddhism, but it's not a Buddhist teaching.

Question: Are ants clever? Answer: I would say that, collectively, they can solve problems quite well. However, they are probably not as conscious and self-aware as humans. Re: Why monks don't say "I don't know"?

Why monks don't say "I don't know"? I have listened to many hundreds of monks and I can't recall any monk saying "I don't know, but this is what it says in the book or Sutta" Why do monks repeat what is in Sutta as if they really know about it? I've often heard monks in the Thai Forest Sangha say e...

Re: My name is

Excuse me. What is modern spoken Pali? Is Pali really spoken? I thought it was found only in books. It's the creation of a handful of 20th century Sri Lankan and Burmese monks, notably Rev. A.P. Buddhadatta. It's used by Asian scholar monks of different nationalities if they have no other language ...

Re: covid experiences

I don't think I've had it, unless it was symptomless or nearly so. My wife tested positive last November and had no symptoms, so that could have been a false test result. I know a couple of friends who claim to have had it, but they did not have tests and their account is indistinguishable from a ba...

Re: Waking meditation while focusing on breath?

It is my understanding that those who do walking meditation normally focus on the sensation of their feet touching the ground. But is it okay to focus on the breath while walking instead? I ask because I know walking meditation is normally done bare foot but the path I use near my house is very rou...

Re: Will i make positive progress for sure?

Try it out. Keep sīla as best you can, by observing the precepts. If you meditate, try to do a regular practice that makes you calm. And use your intelligence to work things out. After doing that for a while, see if it makes you feel better.
