Re: Sahampati speaks from the jhana heavens

If Brahma Sahampati is a deity from the heaven of the fourth dhyana, how does he speak to Gautama Buddha? I realize this might seem like a silly question, but I was under the impression that the deities born of the heavens of the dhyanas are lacking in certain gross features of mind -- sometimes ev...

Re: Is there any experience of Parinibbana?

That is, after an arahant dies, does he/she experience anything? If so, how does the experience come about? If not, how is he/she not annihilated? Thanks Imagine there is a transparent glass pipe, where a stream of colourful liquid running inside. The stream is a metaphor for life stream of 5 aggre...

Re: Is there a Scientific explanation to "Colored light rays that came out of the Buddha's body"

Most likely is these things happens in spirit world only. These are two worlds apart, the material world with humans and animals, and spirit world with gods, ghosts and all other kind of being and spiritual phenomena. The spirit world is often viewed as pure imagination in atheist view, but this vie...

Re: What is panna? Is it permanent?

Panna is the ability of conscious to know the properties of contacted objects. Unlike learned knowledges, panna is instant and always true, because it is the conscious itself. To understand this concept, lets take an example of conscious experience a visual image. When conscious contacts visual obje...

Re: No reason to practice Buddhism without rebirth

Panna is direct knowledge, instantly knowing without time Panna is a feature of vinnana (consciousness). Whatever conscious knows, panna is there to know. In order for conscious to know something, it must know the properties of appearance. For example, conscious knows red color as red, it directly k...

Re: Seeking rebirth in Tushita heaven

Tushita means contented. So being satisfied and contented with life will end up there. That is why bodhisatvas are reborn there, bc they are always content.

But after all, it is just an illusion like every other realms, just mind made, the dream of dead people.

Re: Only delivering Karma

Hello all, I have a short question: Is someone who does bad to another person merely delivering their earned Karma? Or how does this work? Thank You! The exact working of kamma is only available to a Buddha. But the general idea can be extracted like this: if someone does bad to other, this someone...

Re: No. of wives allowed during Buddha's time?

Kings had many wives during Buddha's time. It seems adultery doesn't relate with number of wives, if people accept them. It seems the precepts are about making other suffering. So if society accepts multi wives as normal, it will not make they hurt. OTOH, cheating with other's wives make ppl hurt, s...

Re: Ok buddhism is true but my reaction is depression

There's a sutta exactly for this but i can not find it. A disciple asks why he isn't calm even he realized the desires are dangerous. The answer is that until he tastes the happiness of giving up, his mind will not calm.

OTOH, the depression is rooted in desire, your desire makes you feel depressed.

Re: Is Tomas de Torquemada burning in kammic hell?

we cannot say someone is certainly in hell without knowing that they have committed one of the anantarikakamma But very high possibility, like 99 percent is enough for practical purpose. For example killing 1000 ppl like Angulimalla is 99 percent guaranteed. The remaining chance requires very lucky...

Re: Why the Buddha never forbade suicide ?

Another point for the omniscience of the Buddha. Formerly I often question if the Buddha knows Devadatta would made serious crimes against him and sangha, why did he allowed him to join sangha? Isnt it better if he doesn't join sangha so he would not commit those crimes? Its said that Devadatta woul...
