Re: Are the Jhānas the Buddha learned from his teachers before enlightenment the same as the ones he taught after it?

As I understood Skandha, they were arguing that all of the jhānas "discovered" by the Buddha were different and unlike the jhānas practiced by other Samanas and the samana Brahmins. While this is a fine idea, it has no grounding IMO in scripture. Zom beat me to pointing out that it is an insertion ...

Re: first jhana really can be this easy (35 sec. video demonstration)

According to Buddhaghosa, the probability of anyone reaching immersion through nimitta kasina is 1 in 100,000,000. For real. 1 in one thousand can’t reach the learning sign. And so, on. I’d love to find the passage, but my love affair with Buddhaghosa ended a long time ago. Thanks Ghosa, for all th...

Re: The word buddha

I don’t know. But here are some examples of my insight. There are three sages: Gautama, Hathada, and Moligna This is the way of the world. When These three personalities meet there is a positive effect in the world. Gautama is generally taller than the rest. Hathada has an analytic mind. Moligna is ...

Re: Conquering Masturbation

Studies conducted in rats have indicated that their degree of sexual arousal is sensitive to reductions in testosterone. When testosterone-deprived rats were given medium levels of testosterone, their sexual behaviours (copulation, partner preference, etc.) resumed, but not when given low amounts o...

I recommend you read up on testosterone. It explains a lot about why you’re addicted to porn and why you’re constantly fapping.

Re: Conquering Masturbation

Growing old helps. It helps you become disenchantment with the naked body of a woman. Plus by mid thirties your libido starts to die. teenagers and adults are young, dumb, and full of come. A man comes into his sexual prime at age 18. The images and videos on the internet are artificial stimulants. ...

Re: The Problem With Hell

God/Allah/Yahweh whatever you call him is none other than Mara... As Buddhism rejects the doctrine of a world creator, surely the Buddhist equivalent of God or Allah or Yahweh would be sky flowers or the sons of a barren woman or the horns of a hare. Don’t we have “Gods who delight in creating”? Al...

Re: The Problem With Hell

At what point do we as “good” people ignore the warnings of Hell and welcome the prospects of Heaven? When we're sekhas and therefore free of the risk of arising in lower realms. Until then prudence is always advisable. I have had a dream where I ascended to heaven among a group of friends via the ...

Indeed. But the crux is: does this occur during Jhana or after emerging from it? “Mendicants, develop immersion. “samādhiṁ, bhikkhave, bhāvetha; A mendicant who has immersion truly understands. samāhito , bhikkhave, bhikkhu yathābhūtaṁ pajānāti. https://suttacentral.net/sn22.5/en/sujato My grasp of...

Indeed. There are those who develop samatha and rid them selves of passion. Seems to imply that this, in and of itself, is the course towards discernment - and not otherwise. Are you being coy? :jumping: just come out and say it. Are you hard or soft? (It’s Friday. Come on. It wouldn’t be Fr...

In defence of samatha- Indeed. But the crux is: does this occur during Jhana or after emerging from it? EDIT: it seems you have already cast your vote. Welcome, friend - to the soft jhana EBT world of bliss and samadhi! Perhaps the world of bliss and ecstasy belongs to the hard jhanas! "These two q...

The Problem With Hell

It’s seems in Christianity that whether one does good or bad deeds and thoughts, the Almighty Creator demands this: “Worship my son, Jesus, and you will NOT go to Hell. Otherwise, your phucked (either way).” Buddhism is reasonable. And odd. It sees people with bright kamma going to hell. It sees peo...

Re: suttas where mind and body (31 body parts of meditator) dichotomy is incontrovertible, exposing Abhidhamma incoheren

In defence of samatha- "I tell you, the ending of the mental fermentations depends on the first jhana... the second jhana... the third... the fourth... the dimension of the infinitude of space... the dimension of the infinitude of consciousness... the dimension of nothingness. I tell you, the endin...
