Re: The Four Right Exertions vs The Four Exertions

The first set seems like the general principle and the second a specific instance of it. It isn’t difficult to imagine that one might use other methods to prevent the arising of unwholesome states etc, e.g. buddhanussati which helps prevent and abandon greed, hate, and delusion overtaking the mind. ...

I think he wants the Chinese translation for kāyasakkhī which Ven Sujato translates as personal witness and Ven Thanissaro as bodily witness.

Re: Is dhammawiki.com article on 'Last thought moment' correct?

Apparently, undertaking right view at the time of death can be helpful in attaining a good rebirth. This is not the same as saying the last thought moment is decisive but it’s heading in that direction. Now, Ānanda, take the case of the person here who killed living creatures … and had wrong view, a...

Re: Risk of taking vaccine jab

My immune system is currently reacting to a second dose of moderna I received nine hours ago. I have a mild headache, feel a bit achy and chilly, my skin’s a bit sensitive to the touch, and I’m a little thirstier than usual. It’s not so bad, and it helps that I’m in a comfy bed about to get some sh...

Re: Dare mighty things

I think the suttas can speak for themselves: “Mendicants, I have learned these two things for myself—to never be content with skillful qualities, and to never stop trying. I never stopped trying, thinking: ‘Gladly, let only skin, sinews, and bones remain! Let the flesh and blood waste away in my bod...

Re: what are your thoughts on taking psychotropic medications for mood disorders?

I think the modern psychiatric- industrial complex, if you’ll allow me that phrasing, is basically evil. And most people have been propagandized into accepting it as a pseudo-religious authority. Enjoy the article below and do some more exploring of your own if you dare: https://www.scientificameric...

Re: Lockdown Stress

Good luck! It must be very trying! Last week, one of my sons managed to get home via Germany from Central America, courtesy of Lufthansa, who were flying lots of Germans home. Luckily, Qatar are still flying from Europe to Asia/Australasia, so he was able to connect to NZ via Doha. A rather long wa...

Re: Lockdown Stress

I’m officially hoping to be repatriated from India back to the USA with this lockdown extension, the prohibition on going outside at all for exercise (even if it’s solo) is getting to me. But I have the lowest priority to be evacuated as a young able-bodied male so we’ll see if there are enough seat...

Re: Lockdown Stress

In the building i live in, one of the neighbours placed a hand sanitizer in the elevator with a note asking people to use it to clean the elevator buttons after pressing them. I think that is a legit weird request. If anything you’d use the hand sanitizer to clean your hands after touching the butt...

You're still allowed to exercise outdoor right?
Nope, here in India the lockdown confines us to our place of residence except for acquiring essentials like food and medicine. It ain’t no walk in the park 8-)

Re: The devas are not capable of seeing him

Also, in the Brahmajāla Sutta we have this: The Realized One’s body remains, but his attachment to rebirth has been cut off. As long as his body remains he will be seen by gods and humans. But when his body breaks up, after life has ended, gods and humans will see him no more. When the stalk of a bu...
