No. There's no right concentration without right mindfulness.

Re: sati n samma sati
However , micchāsati is in contrast with samma sati , that is formless attaintments does not resulted in the letting go of all attachments, the ending of defilements, fading away, cessation and going out . The fact that an occurrence of sati doesn't bring about the ending of defilements doesn't mak...

Re: sati n samma sati
Did Alara and Uddaka had Samma Sati or Michha Sati? I don't think either term is applicable. The Pāsarāsisutta says that the Bodhisatta's teachers had the faculty of mindfulness (satindriya) and the rest of the five faculties. The said faculties were sufficiently well developed to make possible the...

Re: Asura realm
No. But some humans were figuratively compared to asuras by the Buddha. For actual asuras let me repost the link to Malalasekera's dictionary:

Re: sati n samma sati
However, could you explain why sense-door consciousness does not have Sati? In a five-sense-door process, such as seeing or hearing, nothing moral or immoral is taking place. The cittas in such a process are not accompanied by any beautiful cetasikas or any unwholesome cetasikas. The only cetasikas...

Re: sati n samma sati
I am not a Pali expert by my understanding is that Sati is a Cetasika which is in every consciousness. Sati is a beautiful cetasika, not a universal. It's not found, for example, in the five sense-door consciousnesses or in any akusala consciousness. In Pali where it says Sati it denotes Samma Sati...

Re: Asura realm
Well, living beings are born Deva because there is no hatred in their mindset. So going to war would be something that is next to impossible for a Deva. That's true of brahmās but not of sense-sphere devas. There are many accounts of the latter getting angry. From the Vinaya Pitaka: Origin story At...

Re: Asura realm
Well, living beings are born Deva because there is no hatred in their mindset. So going to war would be something that is next to impossible for a Deva. Only humans are capable of war. So it's a strange translation. It's a perfectly sound translation by Bhikkhu Bodhi. Moreover, the suttas are full ...

Re: Asura realm
The Asura (drunkards) is a clan of human beings. To judge from the Lokacintāsutta they must be awfully tiny humans. “Bhikkhus, once in the past a certain man set out from Rajagaha and went to the Sumagadha Lotus Pond, thinking: ‘I will reflect about the world.’ He then sat down on the bank of...

Furthermore, the metta sutta omitted the development of right Samadhi, while emphasizing right view, sila, mindfulness (of metta), insight, ... From the commentarial point of view sammāsamādhi is presupposed in the sutta's seventh and eighth stanzas, for unlimited pervasion of any given brahmavihār...

Re: Commentary Review - How did the inconsistencies in the commentaries come about?
By the way, I had a look at DN1 and I can't make out what is commentary. Could you copy a small paragraph of the Sutta and highlight what is commentary. Sorry, the link above provides only the Sutta. You can find the Commentary at: Also here, along with many other translated Pali commentaries and c...

Re: Sallatha Sutta SN 36.6 - The Arrow (or dart, thorn)
in terms of body consciousness , imagine the bare impact when the body skin being affected by normal temperature " air " , it does not give rise to a feeling of pleasure or pain . Just like the other four type of consciousness . If the temperature is the same as your body's there'll be no feeling, ...

Re: Did Buddha say "let forget the words, let the meaning have remained"?
Did Buddha say "let's forget the words, let the meaning have remained, or something similar"? If yes, which Sutta? The relevant Suttas are MN 103 and DN 29, but neither support your quotation. In the former it's taught that the meaning is more important than the phrasing, but in the latter it's tau...

Re: Sallatha Sutta SN 36.6 - The Arrow (or dart, thorn)
I read again several times , i think it is incorrect to say physical body contact doesnt include neutral feeling. It's correct according to the Abhidhamma. To quote Nārada Thera: Of all the 89 types of consciousness only two are associated with either sukha or dukkha . One is the body-consciousness...
