Re: How possible is it to train like this ?

Yes train for calm , that is if one achieve very deep jhana to be able to handle a stab from a knife or even from a blow of gun without losing equanimity . Don't try to make things seem to be so impossible....by doing this you are just making it more difficult for yourself.....maintaining calm is n...

When I was born the hospital put my foot print (in ink) on a document (maybe it was my original birth certificate) to use as positive identification.

Re: Why do we have unique fingerprints?

Why do we have unique fingerprints? Is this evidence to support Kamma Vipaka? I heard a Christian minister say that all fingerprints are unique and that this "proves" that we have a soul created by God. So I looked it up and actually there is a possibility that at least one other person (or primate...

Re: Why do we have unique fingerprints?

From wikipedia: Fingerprints are impressions left on surfaces by the friction ridges on the finger of a human.[1] The matching of two fingerprints is among the most widely used and most reliable biometric techniques. Fingerprint matching considers only the obvious features of a fingerprint.[2] A fri...

Re: Sallatha Sutta SN 36.6 - The Arrow (or dart, thorn)

I read again several times , i think it is incorrect to say physical body contact doesnt include neutral feeling. It's correct according to the Abhidhamma. To quote Nārada Thera: Of all the 89 types of consciousness only two are associated with either sukha or dukkha . One is the body-consciousness...

Re: Sallatha Sutta SN 36.6 - The Arrow (or dart, thorn)

... the arising of suffering can spawn the arising of further suffering.... I think there's only suffering with the second arrow. With the first arrow can only come the painful feeling (and the other unsatisfactory feelings as well) but not suffering. I don't think an Arahant suffers while waiting ...

Re: Sallatha Sutta SN 36.6 - The Arrow (or dart, thorn)

But how would neutral feeling be taken as dukkha ? There is a sutta which I looked for but couldn't find which talks about feelings that are neither pleasant nor unpleasant and what happens when they arise in ignorance or in the absence of ignorance.....my memory is that in the absence of ignorance...

Re: Sallatha Sutta SN 36.6 - The Arrow (or dart, thorn)

But the Buddha isn't trying to make a comprehensive explanation of all the types of extraneous (unnecessary) suffering that can follow the arrow of the initial suffering. He's just using the clearest example to show that mental suffering added to physical is completely extraneous. I like what you a...

Re: Microdosing on cannabis

Up to you to decide for you about how you follow the precepts..... Another issue is whether the use of medicines to aid sleep will keep you from finding the real problem as to why you need something to help you sleep.....of course you might not be able to discover why you need help in sleeping but t...

Most species of Euglena have photosynthesizing chloroplasts within the body of the cell, which enable them to feed by autotrophy, like plants. However, they can also take...

Re: Ants 🐜 (Consciousness & Self-awareness)

I sometimes have ants prowling my kitchen. When I try to catch them (one by one) they are certainly active in resisting my efforts. Why do they run away? A story: Long ago there were more kinds of ant then there are today. There used to be ants that ran away and ants that didn't.....there was no di...

Re: Ants 🐜 (Consciousness & Self-awareness)

Interesting, I didn't know there was such a wide range of views on if insects felt pain. I had always assumed that they did feel pain. I'm not an entomologist, but have always noticed insects tend to squirm and look irritated when they are harmed, for example if you accidentally partially step on t...

And of course all of us have been insects countless lives. https://www.bps.lk/olib/bl/bl106_Mahasi_Ups-and-Downs-of-Rebirth.html Tells the story of Queen Upari who was reborn as a dung beetle..and would have killed her old husband the king if she could . Or the bhikkhu who was reborn as a flea on h...
