Re: Did Buddha say "All worldlings are mad'?

It will take a lot of years for toilet paper to be replaced with a better system. By then I hope to have a much better job. This isn't what I went to college for. It is called a bidet. My parents had one, but I wondered if it was for washing my feet. :? I think it will take a while to catch on ever...

Re: Did Buddha say "All worldlings are mad'?

If you spend any time watching people it does seem very believable that all of them are crazy. It is only a question of how crazy they are individually. Before I had a job cleaning bathrooms I had no idea how difficult it could be for normal adults to use toilets and trash cans. Just as an example,...

Did Buddha say "All worldlings are mad'?

Did Buddha say "All worldlings are mad'?
"Sabbe Satta Unmattaka" or similar.
If yes what is the Sutta reference?

Re: Cuti Citta as Buddhism in a Nutshell

Eighteen thought-moment is a product of Abhidhamma.
It does not explain the whole teaching of Buddhism.
The way I understand the Four Noble Truths are the Summum Bonum of Buddhism.

Re: Buddhagosa Arahanthood

The way I understand that Arahant does not seek merits. The actions of arahants generate no new merit, but that doesn't mean that they can't make use of their accumulated store of merit to make efficacious saccakiriyās . As, for example, in the case of Angulimāla and the woman in labour. Agree. Ara...

Re: Buddhagosa Arahanthood

The way I understand that Arahant does not seek merits. I don't think many of the classical Theravadins believe that ven. Buddhaghosa was an Arahant. Yet they believe he is exceptional and had preserved the theories of ancient Sihala Atthakatha of Mahavihara. Agree. I don't doubt it. But my problem...

Re: Buddhagosa Arahanthood

Hi Karuna, I was discussing Buddhagosa Arahanthood with my friend. He said that in Visuddhimagga, Bhadantacariya Buddhagosa expressed His aspiration to meet Ariya Metteya, while I remember Bhante Dhammanando once said it is put in Visuddhimagga by those who goes against Buddhagosa. I didn't say tha...

Re: Why should we seek Nibbana/Nirwana/Enlightenment?

Hello everyone! Why should we seek Nibbana/Nirwana/Enlightenment? What is the importance of Nibbana? As I understood, the reason is to stop suffering through out Sansara/saṃsāra. We should understand the suffering in our many previous lifetimes, understand that many more suffering is on our way. Li...

Vitakka and Vicara generate the speech.
When there is no Vitakka there will not be the speech.

No. There's no right concentration without right mindfulness.
Perhaps they had the Lokiya Samma Sati and Samma Samadhi?
Bhante, Could you give me an example of beautiful mindfulness in Cetasika?

Are both the same ?
Pls explain how both differs ?
Does samma sati include sampajañña ?

Thanks
Another important factor is Samma Sati is a factor of 37 factors of enlightenment. (mentioned in four places plus in four Satipathana)

Re: sati n samma sati

Did Alara and Uddaka had Samma Sati or Michha Sati? I don't think either term is applicable. The Pāsarāsisutta says that the Bodhisatta's teachers had the faculty of mindfulness (satindriya) and the rest of the five faculties. The said faculties were sufficiently well developed to make possible the...

Re: Signs you will not attain enlightenment ?

Your OP heading seems incorrect. Buddha never said that any particular person will never attain enlightenment. Even Devadatta will attain Nibbana one day. Only you will know whether you are enlighten or not. If you have attachment aversion ignorance you are not enlightened at the moment. Just follow...

Re: in wich ways does Mahayana contradict the suttas?

This is a good question.
With the very little knowledge I have they do not accept Arahant ideal as Nibbana.
Mahayana followers do not want to attain Nibbana in this life and they expect all beings to be liberated before they do.
So they follow the Bodhisatva ideal.

Perhaps this will help you to eliminate fear and attain Nibbana.
