Re: Why should we seek Nibbana/Nirwana/Enlightenment?

Hello everyone! Why should we seek Nibbana/Nirwana/Enlightenment? What is the importance of Nibbana? As I understood, the reason is to stop suffering through out Sansara/saṃsāra. We should understand the suffering in our many previous lifetimes, understand that many more suffering is on our way. Li...

Re: why generate thought ?

Vitakka and Vicara generate the speech.
When there is no Vitakka there will not be the speech.

No. There's no right concentration without right mindfulness.
Perhaps they had the Lokiya Samma Sati and Samma Samadhi?
Bhante, Could you give me an example of beautiful mindfulness in Cetasika?

Are both the same ?
Pls explain how both differs ?
Does samma sati include sampajañña ?

Thanks
Another important factor is Samma Sati is a factor of 37 factors of enlightenment. (mentioned in four places plus in four Satipathana)

Re: sati n samma sati

Did Alara and Uddaka had Samma Sati or Michha Sati? I don't think either term is applicable. The Pāsarāsisutta says that the Bodhisatta's teachers had the faculty of mindfulness (satindriya) and the rest of the five faculties. The said faculties were sufficiently well developed to make possible the...

Re: Signs you will not attain enlightenment ?

Your OP heading seems incorrect. Buddha never said that any particular person will never attain enlightenment. Even Devadatta will attain Nibbana one day. Only you will know whether you are enlighten or not. If you have attachment aversion ignorance you are not enlightened at the moment. Just follow...

Re: in wich ways does Mahayana contradict the suttas?

This is a good question.
With the very little knowledge I have they do not accept Arahant ideal as Nibbana.
Mahayana followers do not want to attain Nibbana in this life and they expect all beings to be liberated before they do.
So they follow the Bodhisatva ideal.

Perhaps this will help you to eliminate fear and attain Nibbana.

Re: Cetanahan bhikkave kamman vadami?

If some evil thought just pop up in your mind there is no problems - it's a past kamma result, we have to just let it go, not touch it. But if you sustainit and indulge in it mentally - you create future arising of it; or if act upon it verbally or bodily... Hi do you mind give an example or two ? ...

Re: sati n samma sati

However, could you explain why sense-door consciousness does not have Sati? In a five-sense-door process, such as seeing or hearing, nothing moral or immoral is taking place. The cittas in such a process are not accompanied by any beautiful cetasikas or any unwholesome cetasikas. The only cetasikas...

[*]Wrong-view (micchā-diṭṭhi) is of many kinds, but in essence all wrong-views deny the law of dependent origination (paṭiccasamuppāda), or cause and effect (kamma). The effects are base attachment, lack of wisdom, dullness, chronic diseases, and blameworthy ideas.[/list] Venerable , it seems many...

Re: Cetanahan bhikkave kamman vadami?

If, however, the bhikkhu is a poor shot, takes aim at B but misses him, and inadvertently kills C instead, he does not incur a Pārājika, for he did not intend to kill C during any part of his action. His only penalties are the Dukkaṭas he incurs while preparing for B’s murder. This example confirms...

Re: sati n samma sati

I am not a Pali expert by my understanding is that Sati is a Cetasika which is in every consciousness. Sati is a beautiful cetasika, not a universal. It's not found, for example, in the five sense-door consciousnesses or in any akusala consciousness. In Pali where it says Sati it denotes Samma Sati...

Ven Gampaha Pemasiri Thero

Ven Gampaha Pemasiri Thero I found this very interesting and unique Dhamma teacher. He is the only Sri Lankan monk I came across that he does not know what Panna means. (claiming not to be an Arahant) His talks are very interesting filled with humor. On a serious note, he said that his teacher said ...
