Re: anicca

Generally monks contemplate on dead bodies to practice the repulsiveness (Asubha) of the body to detach from attachment.
Buddha taught the impermanence (Anicca), unsatisfaction (Dukkha) and the impersonal nature (Anatta) of the five clinging aggregate.
It is more about the mind.

And prescription marijuana, does that break the precept? Prescription for what? Cancer patient so they can find their appetite? Parkinson’s patient so they can have reduced shaking? Or something else? More than four out of 10 Australians are in favor of legalizing cannabis according to a national s...

It is ok to use pain killers for health reasons, but monks have to use it sparingly.

Re: underwear, shoes, trimmer etc

Yeah, what a question... What makes you think that monks can't wear clothes that ordinary people wear? They're no different from us. So they have the right to wear the same clothes that we do. My best friend's father is a monk, and in his spare time, he is dressed like an average person when he wal...

Re: Knowledge and Vision of the Variety of Paths

If your question is about "knowledge and vision of the variety of paths" is very straight forward. What each person called knowledge and vision depend on their views on interpretation of what is Dukkha. What Buddha called Dukkha was the five clinging aggregate so his knowledge and vision i...

Re: Do you agree with the Dhammadinna's statement?

Wasn't Ven. Dhammadinna saying that the three aggregates are not equal to the Noble Eightfold Path?
In other words, Ven Dhammadinna was saying that the Noble Eightfold Path is a subset of three aggregate?

Re: Do you agree with the Dhammadinna's statement?

My understanding is that Sila, Samadhi and Panna have a broader coverage however the scope of Noble Eightfold Path is narrower in comparison.
For instance, there is Noble Tenfold factors.

Re: Do you agree with the Dhammadinna's statement?

Greetings, Do you agree with the Dhammadinna's statement? Yes. It's a matter of taxonomy and relational mapping. Can you map each of the eight, to one of the three? Yes. Can you map each of the three, to one of the eight? No. Metta, Paul. :) Thanks Paul. You understood my question. If the statement...

Do you agree with the Dhammadinna's statement?

Do you agree with the Dhammadinna's statement? "And are the three aggregates [of virtue, concentration, & discernment] included under the noble eightfold path, lady, or is the noble eightfold path included under the three aggregates?" "The three aggregates are not included under t...

Re: Can Abhidhamma assist in my practice? How?

How does it aid in meditation? I've heard of this before, but I don't know how. I even heard of medtitating monks carrying with them the Paṭṭhāna when on forest retreats. Studying the 52 cetasikas mostly helps in identifying what mental contents are there in the mind. It's a more systematic classif...

Re: Kneeling while answering question

Can a Samanera, while kneeling, answers a Bhikkhuni's question? When I was a Samanera around 16 years old if I'm not mistaken, I attended a very old Bhikkhuni Kusuma's talk session with all other Samaneras. When this Bhikkhuni gives a test question, while other Samaneras did not answer, I was dared...
