Re: Therīgāthā, The Verses of the Elder Bhikkhunīs, Book One, Two, Three and Four (Week of May 2, 2021)

Uttamātherīgāthā (Uttamā) Thig 3.2 Four or five times I left my dwelling. I had failed to find peace of heart, or any control over my mind. I approached a nun in whom I had faith. She taught me the Dhamma: the aggregates, sense fields, and elements. When I had heard her teaching, in accordance with...

Kāya can have different meanings other than "physical body" Clarification on Ka‫yagatasati Sutta https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XjKT0q6LQbg I watched that 5 minute video, what's you're point? What he seems to be trying to say is in kayagatasati meditation context, kaya in that case would also need...

Re: Fake Speech

What is the verdict on fake speech? I spend a lot of time being someone who is very customer oriented - and that involves a deluge of really, really polite speech and courteous greetings (and a little bit of small talk). I prefer not to talk at all. But my profession requires it. So ... is it bette...

Re: Dhammapada verse 267

Of course, there are volitions. The volition to turn on the air conditioner is due to heat. The volition doesn't arise without condition. The reply to your question was because of your previous question. The volition for food and water is because of hunger and thirst. All due to causes and condition...

Re: Dhammapada verse 267

What does it mean by transcending both merit and demerit? The merit and demerit are for whom? The words already presume that there is someone who receives a report card. In the ultimate sense, there is no who. The arahant performs good deeds but there isn't anyone who gets the "reward". They simply...

He says; So the Buddha was not enlightened in India. In fact he was never enlightened, was never born and never died. further; I live nowhere, There is no place you can find me, I have no age ... ... to think you exist is already a problem...etc. Can you please teach me this in very simple terms? :...

Re: Does Sotapanna still enjoy the sensual pleasures?

... Possible to enjoy or feel pleasure without craving for an arahant, unlike zombies. Meaning they won't deliberately go for second helpings. ... By enjoyment you are referring to feeling and I'm referring to happiness. I think Arahants feel the pleasant chocolate flavor but they don't find happin...

Thoughts? Is anyone reading this text for the first time? Impressions? Favorites? Thig 1.5 was a gut punch the first time I read it. I find those direct descriptions to very effective. I also enjoy the brevity of these shorter sayings, which is naturally less prevalent in the longer, narrative form...

Re: Does Sotapanna still enjoy the sensual pleasures?

I don't know Sotapannas but I think Arahants have renounced to happiness in favour of equanimity ( and beyond) so despite seeing agreeable things as agreeable they don't find enjoyment in them, they already renounced to that kind of happiness and don't ever indulge in them. Even if to seek pleasure...

Re: The Buddha's Annihilationist Beginnings

Cessation of form, feeling, perception, formations and consciousness doesn't sound like annihilation to me, unlike saying he died. “If, friend Yamaka, they were to ask you: ‘Friend Yamaka, when a bhikkhu is an arahant, one whose heart is pure, what happens to him with the breakup of the body, after ...

Nibbana is self. Self means it has substance. People don't even understand the meaning of word self and discussed merely on blind faith. A house doesn't have a self because the house existence based on outside things like the ground, the air, the sun... So the house doesn't have a self that can def...
