Re: Abandoning pleasure & pain
Which sutta says the body disappears or arises and passes? Anattalakkhana Sutta- "Bhikkhus, how do you conceive it: is form permanent or impermanent?" — "Impermanent, venerable Sir." — "Now is what is impermanent painful or pleasant?" — "Painful, venerable Sir.&qu...

Re: Conformity or non-conformity
For myself, it's always been a problem of justification. That may be the reason for conformity. If I know I'm right, I'll happily non conform. The problem is that when a lot of people have an opinion, you question your justification. Honestly, there's an alternative in yoga and prana. Prana is &quo...

Re: Staying at one spot
I would cease all Goenka style meditation. I’m not saying ignoring these psycho-somatic realities will make them go away. I’m saying you need a new path. I had a friend return from a vipasanna retreat with a “box” surrounding his heart. He asked the retreat leader how to get rid of it. The retreat ...

Re: Staying at one spot
Hello, this is my first post here :) i am practicing Vipassana in the Goenka-tradition since 2014, sat 6 courses so far and my life changed massively for the better since then. However it seems that after some time I keep making the same mistake again. In most of my body tissue I feel almost exclus...

Re: Access concentration
Venerables and friends, I was wondering if i should open this thread here or in one of the meditation forums. I decided it to open it here because the focus will be on terminology, their relationship to the doctrine and their applicability to practice. Most of us might have encountered the term &qu...

Re: What is the best place (limb) to start studying Dependent Origination?
What is the best place (limb) to start studying Dependent Origination? This question was asked by a Sri Lankan Buddhist monk Venerable Hasalaka Seelawimala. His answer was to start it in whatever place you can understand. I thought this was a very interesting question and answer. What is your opini...

Re: Conformity or non-conformity
It's okay to have faults. . Even the Perfected Buddha was able to only teach His Dhamma to a limited degree, and at first, even after full Enlightenment, didn't want to teach until persuaded by a celestial being. So it's up to you to find, individually, with the help of the Three Jewels, the...

Re: Conformity or non-conformity
OP wrote I was taught that I was perfect just the way I was and that this will always be enough , and if others could not appreciate this then it was their loss, and I was to stand up and in truth for my beliefs. History is full of people who were raised like you, I cannot mention names since the f...

Re: Conformity or non-conformity
Right is always right, even if no one is doing it, wrong is always wrong, even if everyone is doing it. Morality has a Universal Factor. Right is always right, wrong is always wrong. That is why Buddhism Teaches about Right and wrong view in the Noble Eightfold Path. Yes… this is the law. Buddha ta...

Re: Conformity or non-conformity
The Truth is what the Dhamma is concerned with Teaching, as the Dhamma is that. Primarily the Truth that leads to Enlightenment. Yes, that’s what we are talking about. One’s morality is one’s truth, it’s the base of one’s practice. Now along comes a social situation where the hive mind is doing som...

Re: Lay anagami
The Buddha owned no land which is why each sutta begins, “Thus have I heard. On one occasion the Exalted One was dwelling at……..” And the location is stated. That is why you need to study and practice according to true dhamma. Don’t just proliferate too much. Don’t know, you say you know. Btw, a la...

Re: Conformity or non-conformity
In this question it is about one’s personal truth, the correctness is of no importance. It’s the individuals personal choice vs. the collective choice. When your personal choice goes against the collective choice will you remain true to your choice or will you sacrifice your truth to go along with ...
