Re: Milindapañha's incorporation into the canon

Does anyone know any good books or materials on the historical context for the Burmese incorporation of the Sarvа̄stivа̄din Nа̄gasenabhikṣusūtra into the Pali Canon as the Milindapañha? Mod note : For any discussion of non-Theravada works, such as Sarvа̄stivа̄din based ones, please see www.dharmawh...

Re: Milindapañha's incorporation into the canon

The Milinda panha - a genuine book of the Theravada- was not part of the canon in the 4th council (and last) in Sri Lanka . It has always been a revered ancillary work. It seems to have been added to the Burmese canon at the rehearsals of the past councils they had last century due to their estimati...

sutta on praising or disparaging?

Hi
I am looking for the sutta where it says the person who disparages the wise goes to hell and the one who praises the foolish also goes to hell. And who praises the wise goes to heaven etc.

Re: Sense Door or Mind Door

End of the day it is the same consciousness performing a different function That needs unpicking. Each citta ( vinnana, consciousness) is a new and different one. Agree. But to be precise, it is not new but it is not past consciousness either. Vinnana paccya Namarupa. Namarupa paccaya Vinnana This ...

Re: Sense Door or Mind Door

I'm a bit confused about the explanation of cognition in the Abhidhamma. Is it possible to be aware of dhammas at the 5 sense doors, or are they only known when they reach the mind door? What is known directly is the nimitta, the sign of the reality. Awareness in the sense of sati-samjanna is aware...

Re: Hetu and paccaya

From Nina Van gorkom: https://ia800501.us.archive.org/24/items/TheConditionalityOfLife/cond.pdf The first condition mentioned in the “Pat. t.h¯ana” is root-condition, hetu-paccaya. There are three akusala hetus: lobha, attachment, dosa, aversion, and moha, ignorance, and these can have many degrees....

Re: Imperfect morality and sotapanna

I don't disagree. I’m not allowed to discuss the issues I have found, I am not allowed to post them. It is quite a lot for some to swallow. But what if everything you thought you knew was 180 degrees on end. If you can open your mind to this, and if a free uncensored conversation was allowed to occ...
