Re: Pest control
It often happens that there is no perfectly good solution to our problems. You only have two choices in dealing with termites - you kill them (or get someone else to kill them for you, which is equally bad kamma), or you let them keep eating your house. Letting them eat your house until it falls dow...

Re: Why I can't meditate?
I would sit and then I would try to not think anything, then watch the breath in and out, there is no problem with some other thoughts coming and disturbing, but instead I would feel restless, uneasy and feel like waking up and think something. Am I doing something wrong? Notice that it's just as i...

Re: What's the Benefit of Practicing Karuna?
Lots of good answers here already so I will just suggest that, of the four Brahmaviharas, karuna is the one which is least able to be practised in solitude. It needs to be expressed in action, far more than the other three.

Italy and Spain experienced it in the early days of the pandemic. England followed.

Symbolism of ancient Egyptian rite reveals karma underpinning this after death rite: https://www.theosociety.org/pasadena/forum/f21n11p481_the-weighing-of-the-heart.htm It's probably more accurate to say that both the notion of kamma and the weighing of the heart are instances of a universal religi...

Re: Coronavirus
Its just another corona-virus the world must learn to live with. No it isn't. It's a particular coronavirus and in many ways quite a weird one. Obvious comparisons are with SARS and MERS, and this is what they look like: How deadly is it? The number of fatalities from the new coronavirus has overwh...

I see it happening here in regional Australia - not all people or all the time but most people most of the time. Re: Mind & body
Greetings simsapa, The teaching on the 5 aggregates separates form (rūpa) & consciousness (viññāṇa). So what is the Buddhist view of the relationship between mind & body? What is the difference between viññāṇa and mind? How should we regard the evidence that there is a strong connection between wha...

Re: Mind & body
Good question, simsapa! Some of us had a long discussion on a related question a few weeks ago and the conclusion was that the doctrines just don't make any sense unless there is a "mind" of some kind which is (somewhat) independent of the physical brain. That's about as far as we got, however. As f...
