Re: Practioners of Thanisarro's Meditation Method - What Is Different?
It took me a long, long time to work out what this 'breath energy' business is, but now that I understand what it refers to, it makes a lot of sense, and is a great method. I too have found this and still am slightly uncomfortable with it. I do find Thanissaro's teachings immensely useful and inspi...

Yes that article id pretty Mills and Boonish, whenever I've heard teachers talking about it it is in terms of the experience being a hindrence and how to deal with it as such. You'll never find true love through VR! Only through Samatha Romance will you reach the stability of mind to get the insigh...

Re: Facts VS fiction: Buddhist themes in Yuval Noah Harari's writings
The first book is excellent. I saw him speak in London a few weeks ago and was very impressed. My partner speaks very often about the second book too which I've started. The second one is actually dedicated to Goenka. The first book has a section on Buddhism which as you'd expect is fairly complimen...

Re: Bay Area dhamma instructors compatible with Thanissaro/Lee
Ajahn Geoff visited us last summer for a non-residential weekend retreat, and I was fortunate enough to record the whole thing and post it to our YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/c/PortlandFriendsoftheDhamma Ah great thanks for that. The only other youtube series with Ajahn Thanissaro is the...

Re: Watching the docu Samsara by Ron Fricke.
I'm more inclined towards Baraka but this is a worthy sequel The only trouble with Baraka, for me, is that I can't figure out what is being said with all of the footage of staring faces. Ron Fricke seems to be making some kind of statement about anthropology, and about a certain voyeurism inherent ...

Re: Psychotherapy
However, I'm sure that there are elements of psychotherapy that tie in well to Buddhism. Could you list some? Well not really, that's why I started this topic. From seeing some books about Buddhism and Psychotherapy at the library of the Buddhist Society in London I expected there to be some links....

Yeah I see where you're coming from.
I get the feeling most people here aren't too keen on psychiatrists and the medical model.
However, I'm sure that there are elements of psychotherapy that tie in well to Buddhism.

Therapists aren't on any top 10 of suicides I've seen. Usually it's farmers, doctors and dentists
