Re: Delete Social Media
It is not social media. It is you. Social media is only a large scale TV. Once you quit social media they (the Mara) will catch you with something else. My personal opinion is the TV, films, and newspapers have done more damage than social media. The only way to get away from this cycle is to pract...

Re: "The Broken Buddha" by Ven.Dhammika and other scandals
Hilarious Writings of ven. Dhammika #0001 Sariputta and the other monks indignantly brush the blossoms off saying as they do, ‘We monks are not allowed to decorate ourselves.’ After all these years, he didn't even know which are the meaningless words while trying to be in the shoes of an arahant? :...

Re: What are your ideas about Pa Auk method ?
The Thai Forest tradition don't really do retreats either, you basically have to befriend a monk for them to teach you, and many thai forest monks have not attained anything. This definately isn't the case with the Thai Forest tradition monasteries in the UK. The abbot of Amaravati Monastery leads ...

Re: "#MeToo!" in Buddhism
I at least tried to make my answer about Theravada Buddhism. This is more about families, imo, because whether a sheila becomes a "Tantric Courtesan" or a "Dubai Port-o-Potty" (the depravity is of about the same level) these are some people's daughters, and thats a shame for the parents, either way...

Re: "The Broken Buddha" by Ven.Dhammika and other scandals
... I agree that Ven. Dhammika goes a bit overboard in this work. However, everyone needs a good dose of reality when it comes to the contemporary Sangha, or even the ancient Sangha for that matter. The bar is set way too low in terms of what is respectable and worthy of veneration. People will dev...

Re: Buenos días desde Chile
Hola. Espe...

Re: "The Broken Buddha" by Ven.Dhammika and other scandals
Just read it. Seems to be common in Australia, this dire need to remake Theravada from them-who-know-better. The 80 odd page polemic glorifies the Tibetan Wizards and the Roman Catholic Church and suggests that Theravada can learn so much from them to avoid.....scandlous behavior? And demographic de...

Re: Delete Social Media
This is an interesting topic but it should belong to Dhammawheel Engaged I think. Meh, not really. DWE is for political activism; this if for " Wellness , Diet & Fitness." Wellness includes mental health. If social media is making people depressed, which is creating dukkha, I fail to see what that ...

Re: Delete Social Media
Care to summarize the 20 minute video, in one paragraph? My Facebook and Twitter attention span isn't long enough to watch that. Is social media making our lives worse? The author is an insider into the creation of algorithms which manipulate people's moods and believes that the entire way social m...

Re: "#MeToo!" in Buddhism
I think with the publicity-stunt of "me too" there were initial accusations of "rape" but it turned out to be just good-old-fashioned casting couch; the way of Hollywood since it began. Hollywood is a giant brothel, but should Buddhism be? IMO, the vinaya should be followed and when people speak in...

Re: Back to self!
You haven't shown how this is annihilation if there was no self to start with. Of course, for as long as we don't truly realise it, to pretend that there is no me, no mother and no father is stupid. it doesn't need explaining, you are desiring non existence of being. How on Earth do you know what I...
