What are the ways in which a monk can disrobe or be disrobed?

I recently had a situation where an Abbot wanted me to disrobe. I'm curious as to what kind of powers older monks have in regards to disrobing someone according to the Monastic code. Basically my question is what can lead me to no longer being a monk according to the Buddha's teachings after already...

Re: I'm a young monk in Thailand doing tudong practice :)

I can understand keeping restraint is an ascetic practice but I just don't see why wandering around is 'ascetic'? Surely, even wandering around could be done within the bounds of percepts, but still it could be an unwholesome act i.e a form of distraction, a restless mind, not wanting to be with ot...

It is not so simple.

No need for sunscreen. I am protected by the robes.

Re: I'm a young monk in Thailand doing tudong practice :)

Most backpackers follow zero precepts. Monks follow 227.

Re: I'm a young monk in Thailand doing tudong practice :)

No tudong for me and for the monks in Thailand means more like ascetic practices in general. Travelling without plans, eating once a day or not at all. Tudong mainly refers to ascetic practices as a monk in general. It's not such a formalized thing here in Thailand. I'm with a quite famous tudong m...

Re: I'm a young monk in Thailand doing tudong practice :)

Oh I've never heard that word before! Travelling, living on the edge, different temple every night. Soon will go into the forests and mountains. Very exciting. I thought Tudong refers to Dhutanga which are the 13 ascetic practices recommended for monks; Refuse-rag-wearer's Practice (pams...

Re: I'm a young monk in Thailand doing tudong practice :)

Just a phone. I'd say like 80% or more of monks in Thailand have smartphones.

I'm a young monk in Thailand doing tudong practice :)

Just wanted to open up a page for discussion of what I'm experiencing and learning and for people to ask questions if anyones interested. Staying at a lot of different temples, travelling everyday, soon will be in the mountains! Also of course any other older monks I'd love to get some advice! I'm a...
