Re: Monastics protesting social injustice

Do not harbour hatred for someone to the extent you can see or acknowledge no good of them. This would apply for example to genuine white supremacists, genuine black supremacists, or anyone with Trump Derangement Syndrome like CNN, MSNBC, activist monks etc. Do not be fake news. ... Do not be the m...

Re: Monastics protesting social injustice

But yes I do stand by what I said. I find that in general this kind of attitude is not really supported or given a platform in Buddhist communities.

So in that way this is a unique place.

Re: Monastics protesting social injustice

This seems to be one of the few places where this kind of talk would be acceptable in a Buddhist community. Friend, you joined this forum in 2018 and said you were looking to ordain after spending time in retreat in New Mexico. Obviously, you have very little experience about Buddhism and Asian cul...

Re: Monastics protesting social injustice

I would say those cases seems to be exactly Monastics protesting social injustice. In one way or another. I find the role of the Monastic to be reducing suffering through experience of the Buddha, Dhamma, and Sangha. Cultivation of Sila, Samadhi, Panyo. So, I support monastics myself included to pro...

Re: Monastics protesting social injustice

I sense an inapropriate tone of disrespect that I have in some ways found common outside of Asia. Friend. My intention is not to belittle or be petty but is not the bhikkhuni in this video the activist who had her monastery burnt down in Thailand by Thai people (probably due to her inappropriate cu...

Re: Monastics protesting social injustice

Finally, remember that subjective views are neither nibbana, nor cessation, nor Sila, nor samadhi, nor wisdom.

Nor the 4 noble truths, Nor the 8 fold path.

Our subjective views are not truth.

The wise ones act accordingly.

To the best of their abilities~

Re: Monastics protesting social injustice

I am not experienced enough to walk with you through various suttas that's why I am encouraging you rather than defame monastics to seek out a senior of your choosing in the Sangha and consult with them directly about this matter. Personally I think it's quite in bad faith and taste to be so discrim...

Re: Monastics protesting social injustice

I think in this case we can be mindful that the kind of lifestyle a monastic lives and the kind of life a lay person lives are quite different. The Buddha in fact did not instruct for everyone to become a monk. For some reason I cannot picture in my mind the Buddha counseling a woman being abused by...

Re: Monastics protesting social injustice

Greetings Mr Man, You can call it what you like but best define clearly what "it" is or you are just using a meaningless smear to demonise (like many of the terms you like to bandy about). Why would you ask me to define other people's propaganda for them? I don't care what it is, only that it canno...

Re: Monastics protesting social injustice

I am very thankful for your sincere participation. Also I am encouraging you to not only to take counseling with a senior member of the Sangha but also for you to bring up these situations with these monks and get the opportunity to have a response from the Sangha itself. I feel that you may not hav...

Re: Monastics protesting social injustice

Greetings bhante, What they expressed and shared in that video aligns with my understanding of Dhamma after around 6 years of practice/study and consulting with elders in the Sangha. What's that though, exactly ? Blaming external causes for individual actions? Accusing your family members of racism...

Re: Monastics protesting social injustice

Just as others here are entitled to express their opinion, I support monastics expressing their opinion and their interpretation of the Dhamma, and I thank them for sharing their perspective. Hi Mike The recent objections is they are actually not expressing an interpretation of the Dhamma. Covid-19...

Re: Ordination for women in mainland Europe

Please be aware of the difficulties for women ordaining and be prepared for them.

For men there are a large large amount of temples and support after becoming a Monastic. For women there are far fewer.

I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors.

Re: Monastics protesting social injustice

Actually I think anyone who is sincerely interested in this subject can refer to the above video from Venerable Bhante Suddhaso. It's quite a direct and informed presentation on the position of the Buddha and by extension Monastics getting involved in these issues. I'm quite thankful to Bhante Suddh...
