Re: Help! Meaning of sankhara
Saṅkhārā - constructions. Saṅkhata - constructed, conditioned. 1. Sankhara as one of the khandhas - these are mental constructions, that is ideas, emotions, mental states, desires, volitional impulses, memory. 2. Sankhara in paticcasamuppada - is a collection of kamma, constituting the next birth as...

Re: Some questions and points on Buddhism
All Buddhist schools believe in 5 spheres of birth: devas, people, animals, ghosts and naraks (creatures of hell), and births in these spheres according to the fruits of the deeds.

Re: Right Livelihood and Abortion
When Angulimala as directed by his teacher went on killing people to collect 1000 fingers he did not accumulate Karma because he did it on instruction and was not his intention. Lord Buddha stopped him before he would kill his mother and preached him to become an Arhant no sooner following this inc...

Re: Emotional intimacy only for couples? Why is it not needed?
There is a wholesome kind of love in the Buddha's teachings called metta . It's essentially a universal wish for the happiness of all beings without exception. Its cultivation is often encouraged, especially for laypeople. It is wrong to translate 'metta' the word love. Metta is kindness, goodwill.

Re: Drinking Water in South & Southeast Asia
I have used this type of electic coil heater; but only to boil water for tea, and the water was already clean. The problem with trying to purify water with such a set-up is that the water boils in the mug very quickly... in a matter of a few minutes. If one then tries to keep the water boiling for ...

Re: Emotional intimacy only for couples? Why is it not needed?
Thank you, I have read the above and would like to start practicing the Dhamma. But I have some questions on the above: The love I felt came involuntarily to me or so I think; if this can come to you involuntarily, then how can be sure to not have love for anything? Also, love in other traditions i...

Re: Emotional intimacy only for couples? Why is it not needed?
If you have the opportunity to distance yourself from the bonds, then it is good if you devote your time to Dhamma. I will leave it here: Udāna 8.8 The Discourse about Visākhā Thus i heard: At one time the Gracious One was dwelling near Sāvatthī, at the Eastern Monastery in Migāra’s mother’s mansion...

Re: Mingun Jetawan Sayādaw: Can an Extinct Bhikkhunī Sangha Be Revived?
Do you mean the Bhikkhuni of Theravada? If so, then why did the bhikkhuni be restored to the line through the Mahayana initiation of the bhikshuni (in my opinion, with the Vinaya line of Dharmaguptaka)?

Re: giving alms to monk and the poor
Yes, giving to the poor is less merit than giving to monks and nuns. What will the poor do with the money? Buy some food, pay the rent, just the basics. It's good, but just basic living. What will the monks do with the gifts? Work towards enlightenment, spread the teachings. Very very good! Meaning...

Re: Drinking Water in South & Southeast Asia
While it's clearly good do things as sustainably as possible, I would be cautious in some areas, and also not be too complacent about what boiling and filters can do. Boiling (which needs to be more than just bringing the water to the boil!) is effective in killing some bugs, but does nothing at al...

Water from wells can be drunk. If the water was doubtful, then I used an electric heater and a tin mug. If there is no access to electricity, you can boil on the fire.

Re: sexuality and the Vipassana meditation
So far repression seem to lead to disease so what trying to repress this primal force? The practice of Dhamma leads to a clear understanding of the flaws and the danger of sensual desires. Gradually, through the skillful direction of attention, there is an understanding of flaws and danger, through...

Hi, But i experience intense (non human) bliss feeling but in your comment it says neither pleasure nor pain. in this experience i experience 100% pleasure feeling and 0% pain as no physical body awareness and no angry emotions. Delight and bliss, one way or another, is accompanied by bodily reacti...

Re: Questions about some of 8 precepts
1. Panatipata veramani sikkhapadam samadiyami : I undertake the precept to refrain from destroying living creatures. Are plants considered as living? I heared that when there is breathin and breath out so there is a life? Or living creature is only creatures bounded by the wheel of samsara? This re...
