Re: Age limits

mind based attainments are accessible any time if mastery in attaining is done Your profile says you are 24. It goes downhill fast when you reach 25. You should hurry up. I promise at 45 things are way different. Especially if you have had to do factory work for a few years. I hear long distance tr...

Re: Age limits

Hi, I looked through past threads but haven't found anything. I wonder if there's age limitations to attainments such as appana samadhi, after developing an air con style piti, a big sukha and subsequent jhana absorption. This is because the body is less energetic with age, less fresh in the mornin...

he says u can't label or pinpoint anything due to ever changing, no essence in anything

hence all thoughts are concepts rooted in illusion.

Re: Did mogollana actually travel to hell to save his mother?

It says right in the article you quote that a story can be found in the Petavatthu. Here it is: https://suttafriends.org/sutta/pv2-2/ However, he does not travel to hell, nor is his previous mother in hell. She is a ghost and comes to him. Sharing merits with beings in hell doesn't do anything for ...

Re: Could someone explain some classical Madhyamaka for me please?

Like I said, you are clearly intellectually incapable to discoursing at this level. Your claims make no sense but you try to pass them off as the only logical possibility. This something changing its condition like water to ice is not dependent origination and this is the only possible type of aris...

Re: Could someone explain some classical Madhyamaka for me please?

None of you have argued against my point that if something doesn’t arise or cease it is either nothing or permanent as op also recognized. It’s either existance or no existance and I reject your explanation as illogical.something cannot both exist or not exist or fall into a third alternative throu...

Re: Could someone explain some classical Madhyamaka for me please?

then matter and Subtle consciousness are permanent or Subtle consciousness alone is Permanent like in the Tibetan synthesis schools of madhyamika and yogachara. Oh man ... The fault of yogachara is asserting a momentary consciousness and the fault of madhyamika is not bringing their deconstru...

Re: How long to attain first jhana?

DN 9 also shows that you require 1 perception, so absorption. Though I don’t disagree with your view of the unitariness of perception in jhāna, I don’t think DN 9 offers very strong support for it. It really only works with Ajahn Thanissaro’s translation, which is based on the reading in the Royal ...

Re: How long to attain first jhana?

I don't think I've ever seen a sutta discouraging anapanasati. I interpret AN 11.9 Saddha Sutta as discouraging meditation dependent on breath (wind) and any other objects. Also, many detailed texts, such as DN 2, don't ever mention mindfulness of breath, or any other such meditation objects that o...

Re: intense hate or greed

If you're willing to physically hurt someone/an animal that's pretty intense. Stealing is also somewhat intense. I would say if an unwholesome intention develops into an action, then it has crossed the line. If it remains a thought then it hasn't crossed the line. But thought itself can be intense ...

Re: How long to attain first jhana?

So Coconut, would you say you have jhana and are at minimum a Stream Enterer? I'm just asking because you seem to have a lot of strong opinions and I want to know if you have any qualifications to support them. I have attained jhanas, and have had strong abhinna (supernormal) experiences that the a...
