Re: What happens to consciousness/awareness when entering Paranirvana?

“Life, person, pleasure, pain—just these alone Join in one conscious moment that flicks by. Ceased aggregates of those dead or alive Are all alike, gone never to return. No [world is] born if [consciousness is] not Produced; when that is present, then it lives; When consciousness dissolves, the worl...

Re: How to overcome love of debate?

That has nothing to do with proof through logical reasoning. It's a repetition of the doctrine and it might be an expression of belief or an expression of faith. But again: the fact that theravada doctrine isn't based on proof through logical reasoning isn't a deficiency at all. Just consider ordin...

Re: Did Ajahn Chah teach eternal citta or otherwise eternalism?

When someone has made the breakthrough, he will not be strictly using standard Theravada textbook vocabulary anymore. When he listen to something he is no longer bonded by that as well. So are you saying he believed in eternalism? Or not? I will say no. When Ananda asked the Buddha is there is cons...

Re: What happens to consciousness/awareness when entering Paranirvana?

Hi Assaji.. If you are interested in what happens after the death of an Arahant - I would say that the vinnana-khandha ceases. that awareness ceases .. After Nibbāṇa, consciousness becomes untangled from mind-and-body, in other words, it becomes "unsupported" (appatiṭṭhita): When the consciousness ...

Re: Did Ajahn Chah teach eternal citta or otherwise eternalism?

Even if his teacher had this view, and others in his tradition had or has those who believe in and teach eternalism, was Ajahn Chah himself an exception? Or elsewhere did he confirm the eternalism position? Q: Is this mind you are talking about called the 'Original Mind'? Ajahn Chah: What do you me...

Re: Ajahn Brahmavamso's Dark Jhana

Continuing from my post, it's quite obvious that the jhana factors are the nimittas and not light. - Samathanimitta = passaddhi - Abyagganimitta = samadhinimitta = ekaggata Also the suttas show that light is a nimitta of abhinna, not jhanas. As "light and forms" arise together, since the Buddha tal...

Re: How to overcome love of debate?

That's a nice statement of someone who relies on belief and obviously is not engaged in the study of logical reasoning which is not included in theravada doctrine which btw is no deficiency of that doctrine. what logical reasoning proves buddhism is wrong? what logical reasoning proves buddhism is ...

only when consciousness or awareness end completely without re-arising, then there Is parinibbana.

when all experience are seen as suffering/no meaning, parinibbana (no experience) looks attractive goal to pursue..

seek private buddhahood. :D sounds easy when the teachings are around, which include teachings about private buddhahood but imagine there are actually no teachings and no Buddhism, like if you lived in Judea during the 8th century BC and were stoned to death for abandoning Yahweh? same thing can ha...

Re: How to overcome love of debate?

Many people read in the suttas, the Buddha debate this and that and they tried to copy their idol and also debate this and that. Some even think they are the defenders of the dhamma. buddha dhamma can't be proved wrong.. hence buddhist don't fail in debates That's a nice statement of someone who re...
