The Broken Buddha

I have just read "The Broken Buddha" on PDF. I am sure quite a lot of you have read about it. For me it's the first time I read in details the negative aspects of Theravada monks. In particular the Theravada monks in Sri Lanka as well as in Malaysia and Singapore. Of course I knew some monks or abbo...

Re: Neuro science replace meditation

Good day members of this forum. I hesitate to speak my mind because I am afraid some one would think I am foolish. Yes, this feeling of inferiority is always with me since childhood. However my desire for knowledge overcome this feeling. I was told by a good friend of mine that in near future you d...

Re: I am done talking about the dhamma with non buddhists

Perhaps that is why lots people fall for religions. It's so simple to understand compare to the Dhamma. I believe I may be wrong of course, generally people just want to be niv didnt come from by some creators in their afterlife and if this can be promised so much the better. A simple story is good...

I think if I were a Jain, the ascetic practice of luñcana alone would persuade me to remain a householder for life. A Jain woman tearing out her hair before her ordination as a nun... . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2YuiDGV90Do Warning: not for the sensitive! Re: A day in the life of a novice Buddhist monk

I can get up on my own and have real coffee, then go to a beach for walking meditation. No one tells me to engage in menial labor, but if the gutter needs to be cleaned I'll do it. I'll have lots of time to study or meditate, and will also take care of the body by doing Yoga and the appropriate amou...

Could you give more details on Thorazine? Any side effects like patients jumping into lake once they are off the medication?

Re: Reason for visiing the monastery. East vs West

Thanks for sharing. I find many westerners don’t understand or don’t agree that morality is important. Many I find seem to think you can just do meditation without a firm grounding in it and still expect good results, even Nibbana. Hello Ceiswr, I am surprised by what you wrote because that is what...

PeterC86 what is this symbol means?
I don't know, but it tries to represent two hands pushed against each other.
Right, I can see something of that sort in the symbol. A try on your part.

some British expressions

Hello fellow Theravadins, A friend of mine who was an American English Teacher in Thailand said the British expression- "How do you do?" is no longer used by the British today because it is old fashion. And another expression is "It's raining cats and dogs" is also no longer used by the British toda...
