Re: I want to ordain, but I have a problem that I just can't solve.

I wish I were Thai. Easier to ordain, less time as a layman/anagarika/samanera. Not to mention not having to worry about visas.

Good luck!! Monastic life isn't that difficult as some make it appear. Give it a try. ;)

Re: Monasteries around Ubon Ratchathani???

What do you like about it exactly? Few people, most people are Thai (only an Israeli samanera who will go back to Nanachat this month), absolutely kind and wise abbot, good food, good kuti, good facilities, not too strict, not a heavy atmosphere, much free time to practice. I was in Wat Marp Jan th...

Re: Moderation in food, 6th precept and weight loss

Almost a year later, I lost more than 10 kilos following the 6th precept. Some breaks here and there (including today, lmao).

Re: Monasteries around Ubon Ratchathani???

I must say I'm loving this monastery so much, I can't even believe this exists, lol. Feeling very very happy. Thank you so much, James. I'll always be grateful for you. Took some pictures before and during pindapata. Hope you enjoy them. https://i.imgur.com/JdrRdXQ.jpg https://i.imgur.com/ViWV5PW.jp...

Re: Monasteries around Ubon Ratchathani???

All I'll say is that I was not happy there. :) I imagine lots of bowing; lots of submission; lots of rules. If you are desperate, you can probably stay at Ajahn Buddhadasa's old monastery; where you are probably basically left on your own; however it is like living in a village; thus potential occa...

Re: Monasteries around Ubon Ratchathani???

Thank you!!!!! I'll be there soon. I hope they accept me. What, You're just going to go and turn up? Maybe that's not such a good idea. Go into the city, have a night in a cheap hotel, go visit tomorrow and ask politely. I'll think about it. Thanks for the suggestion!!! Do they have a site...

Re: Monasteries around Ubon Ratchathani???

I prefer not to talk about Pah Nanachat. I'm grateful for the guest monk and the abbot for all their kindness in accepting and trusting me so much. They literally did all they could for me. It just didn't work. Such is life.
All I'll say is that I was not happy there. :)

Wat Boon Lorm, with Ajahn Bomb. He's a very well respected Ajahn, speaks perfect English and about 30 kid novices. Just a taxi ride away from the city. He's associated with Wat Pa Pong. Re: Monasteries around Ubon Ratchathani???

Generally, people are welcome to visit Wat Pah Nanachat again, as Ubon Rachathani Province is still considered low risk area. The monastery gate is open in the morning around the meal time, between 6:30 and 10:00 am. We ask everyone to have their temperature scanned, register their name and phone n...

Monasteries around Ubon Ratchathani???

Excluding Wat Pah Nanachat and Wat Nong Pah Phong. Does anyone know any? I stood 9 days at Pah Nanachat but I didn't find it appropriate for me. I just left Pah Phong. They are not accepting people there due to covid-19. If someone can help me I'll appreciate it. I'm right now in front of Pah ...

Ling: very good app to learn Thai

I'm not being paid for this!!! Very good app to learn Thai. It teaches the alphabet, grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and conversation (with audio!!). It's very well-organised! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.simyasolutions.ling Some screenshots I took from it: https://i.imgur.c...

Re: How to follow the seventh precept in modern days?

Good perspective from retrofuturist. Is it the intention behind an action? If it is purely for pleasure, it should be avoided. In this case, the amusement I get from reading health books is subsidiary. Regarding #7: I would consider these to fall under the banner of entertainments. I would ask mysel...
