Re: A beautiful quote about Impermanence

I found this Tibetan yogis text talking about contemplating impermanence I've been using it in my practice and a lustful thought came into my mind but since I had been contemplating impermanence the lustful thought disappeared https://www.lotsawahouse.org/tibetan-masters/mipham/wheel-of-analytical-...

Re: Ok buddhism is true but my reaction is depression

I was stupid enough to think I could base an entire relationship off of my Dhamma practice, knowledge and insights this turned out bad and I have lost a few friends with my constant blabbering of impermanence and not self to people whom are no longer my friends because it's really not interesting f...

Re: Can other religions contain eightfold path?

For most Dharmic religions, yes. But not for mainstream Abrahamic religions. There is sila, but that's about it. Samadhi is concentration, tranquility for attaining jhanas and insight and wisdom, panna. Mainstream Abrahamic religions practice worship, not for samadhi or panna, but for salvation. Th...

Re: Ok buddhism is true but my reaction is depression

We never criticize ourselves for what we feel; neither do we feel ashamed for what we feel. We have no control over our feelings. So, it's perfectly fine that you're experiencing depression, even though it's far from being a depressed state. You are not a depressed person - you are simply experienci...

Re: Can other religions contain eightfold path?

Thanks. It's like buddha reminds of our naturalness. My current practice doesn't involve books i just act naturally in the present moment, what is the natural thing to do that will lead to my well being right now? Yes, this is very zen-like as well. Zen Buddhists don't read or study as much as othe...

Re: Can other religions contain eightfold path?

In this discussion, it is important that participants familiarise themselves with Brhamajala Sutta. https://www.accesstoinsight.org/tipitaka/dn/dn.01.0.bodh.html#fnt-11 31. "In the first case, bhikkhus, some recluse or a brahmin, by means of ardor, endeavor, application, diligence, and right reflec...

Re: Can other religions contain eightfold path?

Buddhism is like a mirror for your heart. You already can see if you pay attention to your feelings Buddhism is also called the Dhamma which means the truth or nature of something in the case of Buddhism it's the nature of life. My Christian friend killed a bunch of bugs and despite what Christiani...

Re: Can other religions contain eightfold path?

From what I've learned from the path of Lord Caitanya, who reestablished Vaishnavism in India, being an Avatar of Krishna Himself, is that those Beings who are the founders and propounders of other Spiritual Paths, the Primary ones, are Buddha and Krishna Himself. The first truth is that there are ...

Re: Can other religions contain eightfold path?

I'm not sure all major religions have value, apart from the fact that some do promote basic morality. But we don't know religion to have morality. The two are completely separate entities. I don't think everyday religion is so good for society in general. But that is for another topic. I will not be...

Re: Can other religions contain eightfold path?

What exact causes and conditions does pure conciousness depend on? It doesn't. That's the idea. I don't necessarily subscribe to this. But it could be "Buddha beyond time", as we see in Dzogchen. As far as your comments about other religions leading to enlightenment: Well, I don't know. There may h...

Re: Can other religions contain eightfold path?

What u mean by pure conciiusness and impure one? If pure conciousness exist all time why there is impure one? Conciiusness is due to cause n condition, hence it can cease without reminder Yes, it would appear that pure consciousness is a product of causes and conditions, like everything else, right...

Re: Can other religions contain eightfold path?

Concious come n go .. how can it be refuge? I'm not sure you can really destroy pure consciousness, or break it down into aggregates. Maybe quantum physics say otherwise. I do not know. I was just making the point that Advaita Vedanta yogi school and Buddhism may have major overlap, and this may be...

Re: Can other religions contain eightfold path?

Well someone might hear "Love the Lord thy God with all your heart, strength, Soul and mind" and "Love thy neighbor as thyself" and instantly attain a state of Samadhi, absorption in Divine Trance and come to the realizations of the Noble Eightfold Path based on that goodness. We are living beings ...

Re: Can other religions contain eightfold path?

What is your definition of enlightenment? Seeing emptiness directly built on a foundation of morality and non-clinging. This is what brings genuine enlightenment. My point was that the mystical "pure consciousness" state of Advaita Vedanta could be what the Buddhist refer to as "seeing emptiness di...
