Re: cessation - seeing

I'd say that they cease in the attainment, since they obviously re-arise when one leaves the attainment. The real difficulty in the equation is the issue of the durability of Nibbana - if that attainment is Nibbana, does the ending of that attainment imply that Nibbana is not durable ( dhuva )? For...

Re: cessation - seeing

Lonely upasaka: But the suttas u quote talk about this: "the monk directs and inclines it to the knowledge of the ending of the mental defilements. He discerns, as it has come to be, that ‘This is suffering… This is the origination of suffering… This is the cessation of suffering… This is the way le...

Re: cessation - seeing

How do u conclude that cessation of perception and feeling is nibbana or a step right before nibbana?.
Seeing with discernment what?.

cessation - seeing

Hello everyone: quote (MN-111) : "Furthermore, with the complete transcending of the dimension of neither perception nor non-perception, Sariputta entered & remained in the cessation of feeling & perception. Seeing with discernment, his fermentations were totally ended. He emerged mindfully from tha...

Re: the great Nibbana = annihilation, eternal, or something else thread

Thank you all. I ask mainly because of this quote (MN-111) : "Furthermore, with the complete transcending of the dimension of neither perception nor non-perception, Sariputta entered & remained in the cessation of feeling & perception. Seeing with discernment, his fermentations were totally ended. H...

Re: the great Nibbana = annihilation, eternal, or something else thread

Thank you!. But i think i asked the wrong question: -What lies right before attaining nibbana according to the mainstream theravada views?. (Ex: The person right before attaining nibbana attains the cessation of perc. and feeling, The person right before attainning nibbana sees the 3 marks of existe...

Re: the great Nibbana = annihilation, eternal, or something else thread

Hello everyone: I wonder, among the theravada community, what are the main views into how nibbana is experienced? eg: the person always attains cessation of perception and feeling, the person can see dependent origination, the person doesnt need to see dependent origination but the 3 marks of existe...

Can a Sotapanna break the 5 precepts?

Hello everyone: Being reading comments where is stated that they can break precepts (like the drunken sotapanna Sarakaani), others where is stated that they are saints, never to be reborn lower than humans in part because they dont break precepts for any reason. I wonder whats the theravada view on ...

Its unhealthy and can kill u :), but probably the danger of becoming excessively harsh with what u can or cannot do is a bigger hindrance to your mind state.

Big Bang theory at the time of the Buddha?

I have always wondered what this sutta reference is about but never asked about it: ""If he wants, he recollects his manifold past lives,[3] i.e., one birth, two births, three births, four, five, ten, twenty, thirty, forty, fifty, one hundred, one thousand, one hundred thousand, many aeons of cosmic...

Re: Pressure around the eyes and forehead when meditating

Hello!: My advice is that u stop the meditation for a while (as long as it takes). Generally pain in the head, neck, jaw or eyes are a dead end and it only gets worst if u keep trying to fix it ( its very different from having postural pains, like numb legs, or spine fatigue). This is tension accum...

Re: Right Action and Right Livelihood

Thanks for the answers!. "For a person endowed with virtue, consummate in virtue, there is no need for an act of will, 'May freedom from remorse arise in me.' It is in the nature of things that freedom from remorse arises in a person endowed with virtue, consummate in virtue." What im trying to say ...
