Re: How do you note impermanence, dissatisfaction, and non-self?
Do you need to see impermanence "as it happens", or is an inference of impermanence sufficient? For instance - in the moments of mindfulness while eating a sandwich the pain in my mouth ulcer is permanent! But I know the pain will go away "in the future". In this case, Mal, you use this remembering...

Re: Being spiritual but not religious is a cop-out
Following precepts, sila I imagine is on the back-burner or not existent for many on the "spiritual but not religious side." This is not to say they are bad in any way, but according to many Buddhist teachers sila is necessary to make progress. If we are honest this is the most hindrence to every "...

Re: Being spiritual but not religious is a cop-out
Those in the spiritual-but-not-religious camp are peddling the notion that by being independent - by choosing an "individual relationship" to some concept of "higher power", energy, oneness or something-or-other - they are in a deeper, more profound relationship than one that is coerced via a large...

Re: Engaged artists
I am not sure if a real Buddhist would regard him self as a Buddhist, so its maybe not the best to focus on such declarations, Jeffrey. Just a thought.

Re: Why is it important to value and see our Conditions?
Hanzze This idea that the end result is inevitable is just like the saying "all roads lead to Rome," on a limited understanding you should be able to take any road and reach Rome, but in reality you could still be 10,000 miles away. this sort of message should always be joined with following the ri...

Re: Experience of Mahasi method but focusing on nostrils?
I found focusing on which nostril is actually in use very useful, as they change every some hours. Needs a lot of effort to see the arising and fading away. Most are even not aware of this permanent change.
So which nostril are you using (is in use) right now?

Re: Asking about non parajika expulsion
Thanks for the share and effort!! Let me try to share my thoughts as well when reading it. The only quotable vinaya I know of is quite cumbersome to use and uses quite archaic words as it is older than the PTS translations (131years old since printing) the stories mentioned by Whynotme earlier are i...

Re: Here we go again...
A man may plunder as long as it serves his ends, but when others are plundered, he who has plundered gets plundered in turn. A fool thinks, 'Now's my chance,' as long as his evil has yet to ripen. But when it ripens, the fool falls into pain. Killing, you gain your killer. Conquering, you gain one ...

Maarten, When there is no buyer there is no seller (at least killer) when there is no seller, there is no buyer. In a small village the cow of a farmer dies, the familie quickly prepares the meat, store a little, and the rest is given to the wife in the house. She walks to the village and shouts: "H...

Re: Asking about non parajika expulsion
Dear Cittasanto,
may I ask you if you could provide some responsible texts and stories for the current questions here. Maybe they are usefull. Just if it is not to much effort and time. I guess it would be very helpfull in this case.
