Re: Coronavirus

Hi Kim ohara, i had used ivermectina (is an antiparasite) they are 2 little pills (1 per day), i dont feel anything i used it just for prevention (of covid19), and i think ivermectina is not so much strong as the other 2. I just sounds like a wild stab in the dark to take some unrelated medication ...

Re: Healing

Mettabhavana. Looking after yourself in positive ways - eating well, exercise, practice. Looking after others. Slowly slowly we realise that we are not bad, that we didn't deserve it, that we are worthy of love. And we develop true loving-kindness for ourselves and other beings. This is healing as I...

Re: why dorje shugden is hated?

Tsem rinpoche is a good monk with compassion.. his compassion may be because of training in his tradition. but why Dorje Shugden is banned or avioded? If I were an adherent of the Tibetan religion I would avoid joining a sect that requires one to worship this creature because his name always makes ...

Re: People are ...?

 so... what's wrong with them? Why would anything need to be wrong with them if they don't like you?? Behind favoring extroversion is the idea that a good person is someone who is willing to talk to just anyone, at just any time, about just anything, on the other person's terms. Which is ...

Re: People are ...?

There is of course a corresponding critique of introverts, in that they are much more preoccupied with their own feeling, plans, ideologies and views than the feelings, etc of others. They may project less but they ignore even more. To an extrovert, they appear selfish and self-cherishing in a more...

Re: People are ...?

As for the introversion/extraversion dichotomy: We've discussed this before. I think this dichotomy can be quite misleading. In my experience, extraverts aren't interested in other people as other people are, but as the extravert sees them -- but without making clear the difference between the two....

Re: People are ...?

Greetings Dan, Whether in relation to family life and other relationship, is cultivation and practice a purely an introverted affair? To the point above, I think the lessons from the above Sutta still apply, but I mostly find it a non-issue in daily life as the qualities praised above are much more...

Re: People are ...?

In the light of the preceding few posts, I wonder whether a certain subtle solipsistic self can take root in the midst of such cultivation, done as one says, for the sake of cultivation and not really with regards to other people? I know we have had this discussion before and interesting sutta passa...

Re: People are ...?

As to what kind of spiral one sets up, surely this will depend on one's words and deeds towards others, not one's assumptions about their probable character. But one's assumptions about others determine one's words and deeds toward others, do they not? Or is that the way of the uninstructed, run-of...

Re: Important Terms of Service update regarding political matters

Greetings Dan, Thanks for your words. I think the context is the elephant in the room. And so it is clear, the context is this forum, and the topic in which the content is shared. External political contexts, whether reasonable or neurotic, are not relevant as they are not the scope of this forum, ...

Re: Important Terms of Service update regarding political matters

I think the context is the elephant in the room. Words taken out of context can be made to mean many different things. "All lives matter" is a good example perhaps. On its face value, it asserts a universal truth. And when one looks at the critique of the slogan, no objection to this universal truth...

Re: lie, watching porn, hearing music, playing games compatible with trying to attain first stage of enlightment?

It's pretty much best to not engage in lying, playing video games, or any forms of pleasure you think is distracting. It's real hard to work, meditate, and study dhamma all day everyday. That would be like a monk lifestyle which is really hard to pull off. But hey you need to sacrifice a lot and wo...

Re: Nagarjuna wants Mahayanists to fear śrāvakas as one who loves life fears beheading

So, before we throw out Buddhaghosa with the bath water and hail Nagarjuna as our new chief interpreter of what the Buddha meant, let's remember his words that decapitation is as fearful as our own s(r)avaka path. And that we are bad friends that the Mahayana bodhisattva should stay away from. Naga...

Re: Gay and Buddhism

Hopefully more knowledgeable people will chime in, but isn't it accepted that many (most?) of the Vinaya rules were introduced in order to deal with existing problems and not because of some absolute? By implication, at least some of them would have to be specific to that time and culture.
