Re: Are gods bored and can they meditate?

I think I read in Abhidhamma something like if you are a first jhāna deva, for example, you can only go from the second jhāna on since you are always living with the perception of the first jhāna (singularity of perception). "There are beings with diversity of body and singularity of perception, su...

Re: Kassapa Buddha's sīla

Thanks, Robert. Indeed, much is conjecture, but it seems Buddha Gotama's abilities have a level of detail that the previous Buddha's dispensations did not. What would be mighty interesting to see is the way the next Buddha speaks about Gotama...."So hey listen, Gotama was like best, full on "G", so...

Re: Are gods bored and can they meditate?

Hey, /.../ 2. Why can't gods meditate in god realms and achieve enlightenment there without becoming human to do so? Hello! I'm pretty sure that nowhere in the suttas is such a statement being made. I think there are in fact cases mentioned of devas and brahmas who were taught by the Buddha or his ...

Re: Sutta help

Venerable Dhammanando wrote that the great majority of humans are headed for rebirth in the lower realms. I would like to read about this. Can anyone copy a sutta? Thank you. This one: Then the Blessed One, picking up a little bit of dust with the tip of his fingernail, said to the monks, "What do ...

Re: question criticizing

Namaste i want to know if criticizing is breaking the fourth precept ( bad people or very bad people)? (for example criticizing the communists). Is it involve bad kamma? Obviously, you can criticize bad people, even moreso if they are very bad people. In fact, you can do them whatever you want, bec...

If you say I never drank alchohol but you have, and this does not hurt someone, I think this is right speech, but I could be wrong. You are wrong. Did ven. rahula lied after sotapanna or before? Did he lie? What do you know of the dark side? They have cookies. Actually the Comy wasn't my first sour...

Re: Question about Evidence of Nibanna

The number of beings in the universe neither increases nor decreases. According to who? Not the Buddha, he made it one of the unconjectures. Not exactly clear, IMO, but I think it is a reasonable interpretation of this category of "unconjecturable" questions: "Conjecture about [the origin, etc., of...

Re: Is it possible to escape the vipaka of any kamma?

By this explanation you simply ignore everything Buddha says. Of course defilements must be destroyed, but, along with them, kamma will be exhausted too (as in the text: by experiencing their results little by little ). This is what Buddha says, arahants say in Theragatha, and this is what is shown...

Re: Is it possible to escape the vipaka of any kamma?

perkele So that‘s one reason not to believe in „the Abhidhamma“, if that‘s truly what „the Abhidhamma“ proposes. Because it contradicts the suttas. But maybe it‘s not „the Abhidhamma“ which makes such a statement but just the Abhidhammatha-Sangaha (for example) in this case, contradicting the sutta...

Re: Is it possible to escape the vipaka of any kamma?

Greetings, According to the Abhidhammathha Sangaha there is classification of kamma called "ahosi" (defunct) kamma. That is kamma that should have ripened but the conditions were not met. So, for the Arahant this is all of the past kamma from lifetimes ago that was due to ripen but did not due to c...
