Re: buying/using gun
Answered my own question. In the Vinaya, Suttavibhanga, the 92 pacittiya (rules entailing confession), number 74 states “Non-offenses. According to the Vibhaṅga, there is no offense for a bhikkhu who, trapped in a difficult situation, gives a blow “desiring freedom.” The Commentary’s discussion of ...

Re: buying/using gun
No, that is incorrect. Where do you believe the right to own a gun comes from? From our inalienable human rights. The rights every human has from birth simply by being human. Are you of the view that rights only exist when the state recognises them? If so that would mean there are no human rights v...

Re: buying/using gun
it’s also true that owning a gun is a right. It’s simply the case that the U.K. government does not recognise said right. No, that is incorrect. Where do you believe the right to own a gun comes from? Not all modern political positions will be found in the suttas. Still, they must still be informed...

Re: buying/using gun
Mr Man What do you mean it is a "human right"? You do not have the "right" to own a gun where I live. That people have a right to own a gun for self defence just like they have the human right to life, liberty, property, marriage, religion etc regardless of if the state recognises said right or not...

Re: Monastics protesting social injustice
Buddhist Monastic Code I Chapter 8.1 Pācittiya: The Lie Chapter Tired of arguing so I'll let you read it... even if I do the legwork it will just be ignored. Okay Pacitiya 1 A deliberate lie is a statement or gesture made with the aim of misrepresenting the truth to someone else. The K/Commentary, ...

Re: Monastics protesting social injustice
You are still banging on about this  People should be willing to back up allegations they make on this board. The irony! Regardless, its obvious at this stage that BorkenBones and I simply do not agree with you. Instead of beating this rather boring dead horse perhaps its time to move on? You...

Re: Monastics protesting social injustice
The article does seem to border on the defence of law breaking and I would use it as evidence in any accusation of defamation. And 'saying one knows when one doesn't' is a clear Vinaya issue. Perhaps you could clearly show where, in the article, Bhante Sujato defends law breaking? Can you give a qu...

Re: Monastics protesting social injustice
And when you said Bhante Sujato defends "law breaking", Is that defamatory? And when you said "he must have broken numerous Vinaya rules"? The article does seem to border on the defence of law breaking and I would use it as evidence in any accusation of defamation. And 'saying one knows when one do...

Re: Monastics protesting social injustice
Nobody knows 100% whether or not another person is a rapist, murderer etc. The point I'm making is that Bhante Sujato does not know and yet declares it to be true that Trump is a rapist. This a flagrant example of 'not knowing he says I know'. It's a very simple point to understand and with no evid...

Sam, not sure if this piece is technically correct from a Theravada perspective but it might be of interest. I think types would have been a better word than layers.

If you step on a pin you feel the pain at the point of contact. Consciousness arises at the point of contact. Focus on sound and you will notice more sounds (Sound consciousness arises). Focus on sight and you will notice more things visually. Focus an the solar plexus and you will notice what arra...
