Re: Is there a thin line between love and hate?

Metta meditation and/or developing bodhicitta and sharing merits is a lifelong practice.

Be patient with the mind. It doesn't change over night.

Keep practicing!

Re: "Its like this"

Right mindfulness, as per the satipatthana sutta, includes putting aside unwholesome states of mind Nope. MN 10 doesn't have that, instead speaking of observation and acting with awareness. Maybe you mean that line 'free from desires & discontent'? Where does it support your claim that mindfulness ...

Re: Good afternoon, would you consider this centre reliable and beneficial?

I've done two long retreats at Panditarama. It's a special place with extremely high vibrations. It is a serious Vipassana meditation center. You'll be expected not to look at anything, listen to anything (besides the evening Dhamma talk), etc., for the duration of your retreat. You'll have intervie...

Re: Getting closer to being able to ordain

Start looking at the ground 2-4 steps in front of you when you walk. Meditate more?

Re: Ordaining in England. And my plan.

I am happy you have a strong intention to be a monk. Still, life does not happen the way we want it to most of the time. Five (fifteen?!) years is a long time. Everything changes. The mind is fickle. Your mother could die. You could die. We usually think we are preparing for something, some time bet...

You don't need the letter from Ministry of Affairs, only a letter from a meditation center.

Re: Why every small moment of mindfulness counts

To use an example loosely from Goenkaji: If you want to fill a jar with water, every drop of water counts, no? If you want to chop down a tree, every strike against the trunk helps you toward your goal. I know U Pandita Sayadaw often in his Dhamma talks reminds yogis not to underestimate the power o...

Re: Diet on Solitary Retreat

Thanks for your suggestions and breaking me out of my limited, idealistic shell.

Regarding the teacher-led retreat: I just did a 3-monther in Myanmar and feel solitude would be better for now.

Re: Diet on Solitary Retreat

Thank you for your advice weakfocus. I am strongly considering adding frozen fruit/veggies to the list since I will want to avoid the supermarket during the retreat.

Diet on Solitary Retreat

I'm in the imagining/planning phase for a two-month personal retreat. I would like to hear some opinions about the food I will store and eat. Here's the preliminary list: Steel-Cut Oats Almond Butter Extra Virgin Olive Oil Green Vibrance Powder Water I will not bring anything sweet, because I want t...
