Re: An argument for ultimate reality from a Theravādin perspective.

I agree with him. There's an actuality behind a concept, but it's void of intrinsic nature. What is an "actuality behind a concept" and what is "intrinsic nature" from a thereavadin perspective using the suttas as a basis? chownah That quote of Ven. K. Ñāṇananda answers your question. If you preten...

Re: An argument for ultimate reality from a Theravādin perspective.

What is "reality"? What does "utimate reality" mean? What are the other kinds of reality? What are the salient features of the various kinds of reality? That which is known via direct perception and exists apart from concept, thus not being liable to being broken down further and so exists bearing ...

Re: Coronavirus (Wellness, Diet & Fitness)

Many, many virus infections do not cause long term immunity. Some do. Some give short term immunity. Some do not. There is no evidence that recovery from corona virus infection confers long term immunity. There is evidence that recovered patients have been reinfected with the same strain that cause...

Similarly one could speculate about What is "knowledge"? What does "utimate knowledge" mean? What are the other kinds of knowledge? What are the salient features of the various kinds of knowledge? Can someone compare the various types of knowledge in some way so that we can clearly understand what t...

Re: grasping and non-grasping

I think that grasping is the act of becoming attached. Experiences arise through the six sense media.....if a person grasps at those experiences then that person becomes attached to those experiences.....being attached to pleasant experiences leads one to crave for them and to seek them out again le...

Re: Can other religions contain eightfold path?

Most of the time I forget the spaghetti monster people exist. They make Esperanto look valid. Do note that the Flying Spaghetti Monster religion is not the same as the Eight Stranded Flying Spaghetti Monster religion....they are two seperate religions and this should always be remembered else confu...

Re: Can other religions contain eightfold path?

The annoying thing is that no one wants to use this thread to talk about if the parts of the Eightfold Path can be found in nonBuddhist doctrines. I think that is because it is such a specific formula and it is too obvious that the answer is that no, they can't. The Eight Stranded Flying Spaghetti ...

Re: Can other religions contain eightfold path?

Sorry, but I made a mistake that I think should be corrected. I posted this: This thread is titled "Can other religions contain eightfold path?".......I brought a sutta reference where the buddha talks about the possibility of the Noble Eightfold path being found in some religion (dhamma and discipli...

Re: Arahants and magic tricks

Actually I don't see that you have clarified what I mentioned in that you only refer to me talking about my experience.....are you suggesting that you take me to be an arahant so my experience is the defining one?....I doubt it. Why not? Why do you think the Arahant would be different to what you d...
