Re: Happy Birthday, Dalai Lama!
Maybe the second buddhist book I ever read was written by The Dali Lama (and third, and fourth), so I must thank him for putting it out there for people like me who didn't know anything about Buddhism. May he live for many more years and continue to be a good example of Dhamma, as Sattva rightly poi...

Re: self pleasure or drink?
Cool! But no one is promoting masturbation. We are just not condemning it. That's all. I have no beef with the view that indulgence in any sensual pleasures is incompatible with nibbana.[/q "What's the harm of an occasional wank? Get real." -Dan "Wanking should be fine, minus a rampant porn habit. ...

Re: gaps in between the breath
What should I focus on in between the breaths while there is a pause? focus on the pause - if you're focusing on the nose, feel how the nose feels when the breath is still. If you're focusing somewhere in the body, notice if the pause has a tense feeling, or a feeling of relaxation. There are sure ...

Wanking should be fine, minus a rampant porn habit. Just don't get addicted to other men's wives, whatever else you do

Re: How you improved since you started ?
I'm still a lusty, resentful prick. Just less so. Hahaha. Honestly, I am much less prone to turning that first bad thought or feeling into an enormous mass of bad thoughts and feelings. Good thoughts and feelings are still pretty good - but I don't get so bent out of shape if I can't get them. I sti...

Re: dating a girl of 18 when i am 22
You should never, ever date a woman who is more than a week younger than you are.
I'm joking. If the two of you appear equal or similar in age and beauty, there isn't much reason to worry (except for the usual romantic troubles of course).

Re: Where is God in Buddhism?
Thanks for the informative posts guys. I would also be interested in hearing your personal beliefs regarding the nature of God if anyone cares to share. I assume that no one here believes there is no God, as knowledge comes from experience, not lack of experience. I'm an agnostic atheist: I believe...

Re: Anapanasati Help - First day meditating.
It helps to know what instructions you're using. I suspect you're mind is becoming dull and is sinking into inactivity, so my first thought would be to stay loose, not over focus - don't focus HARD on one thing, trying to keep everything but the breath OUT, just relax and come back to the breath wh...

Re: The 5 stages of Buddhist life
As far as my understanding extends, there are 5 stages of Buddhist life. When one has all of them - one is complete. 1. Learning 2. Contemplation 3. Practice 4. Realization (attainment) 5. Teaching Would you agree with that? Do you think I've missed anything? I think that's a pretty decent order. I...

Re: Where does one go on attaining Nibbana
3. No one stays in nibbana for ever. But once greed, hate and delusion have been existinguished in a human being, they don't return. So, this non-returning of greed, hate and delusion could be seen as eternal nibbana. Are you sure about this?. I thought Nibbana was a Deathless state - a Permanent s...

Re: Where does one go on attaining Nibbana
Nibbana - from my understanding is the deathless stage. It signifies the following:- 1. Complete destruction of Greed, Hatred and Delusion. 2. No more rebirths in any realm of existence. 3. It is a deathless stage. My questions are :- On attaining Nibbana:- 1. Where does one go?. 2. What are the qu...

Re: advertising
Yeah, I accidently got a program called 'coupon companion' installed on my computer which would hyperlink words on DW with links to ads. I couldn't remove all of it as its a stubborn little prick.
