Re: How do I tell my friend I don't like her kind of Buddhism?

I think its a wee bit rich for a sect to condemn all of its critics to a "world of hell" whilst they themselves are free to criticise other sects of Buddhism willy-nilly.

Re: Saying "I am a Buddhist"

I don't really feel the need to tell anyone, unless they ask, or something arises in conversation. I don't feel the need to really.

Re: Anyone can go to hell, so be heedful

Those people already held a view of rebirth, he was teaching them in terms they would understand Metta The flaw I can see in that arguement is that the Buddha normally doesn't have any qualms about telling people when the view that they hold is wrong. Why would he neglect to tell people that the vi...

I realised that probably the problem was that I didn't think too mu...

Re: Attainment as Qualification to Teach?

I heard Ajahn Jayasaro mention that even being an arahant does not necessarily make one a good teacher, if you aren't the kind of person that can teach people anyway, realising the Dhamma doesn't mean that you would suddenly have the ability to be a great teacher. I guess this means a good teacher i...

Re: Rebirth conciousness & Sheldrake's Morphic Resonance

Greetings Laurens, I accept that the Buddha himself never spoke directly about Life to Life Rebirth You accepted an untruth right there, in the Pali Cannon the Buddha mentions several times about how rebirth occurs post mortem. The suttas demonstrate the Buddha discussing post-mortem continuance, b...

Whether or not you yourself accept rebirth is another thing, but it's plainly obvious that...
