Re: Seventeen thought moments

Hi Mike What a debate! Thanks for the link. You said “This whole thread is starting to puzzle me. It seems clear that the translation of many technical points in the Suttas is only possible with a careful reading of commentaries and a lifetime of study.” I wish to add that by practicing and experien...

Re: "Dhamma" practices in Myanmar

Hi House hold When you take three refuges you take the refuge of Ariya Sangha. That is Sanghas who have attained at least one stage of saint hood. So please do not lose faith on Sangha. All Buddhist monks have not attained Magga Phala and hence they are called Sikha (students) However those monks ar...

Re: Why does metta come before Upekkha?

There are many categories in Dhamma teaching. I see them as different paths. They all are aim towards one goal “Nirvana” If you can understand and experience one category you will understand all. That could be the reason why, that we chose one meditation object, when we meditate. To see various cate...

Hi Porpoise
Good thinking!
If you could inflate a coin what you will get is a round ball. So there is no head or tail.
What you get is “one world of ignorance”

Re: Why Can't We Agree on ANYTHING?

Having said that why I think people dispute and disagree, I did not mean to say that I am free from all those defilements.
I am aware of them and continue to work to eliminate them. For example “Mana” will be completely eradicated by only on attaining Arhantship.

Attachment, aversion ignorance, three sides of the same

Are attahment, aversion and ignorance, three sides of the same coin? It was not easy for me to completely practice non attachment, so I thought that I will practice complete non aversion. It seems easy to me as, I do not have to forgo any thing. So I made a list of people who I do not like and stared...

Re: Why Can't We Agree on ANYTHING?

Hi Danie The question raised is a good one. I had the same question with my own experience. The disagreements were there even in Buddha’s time. This is why I think that we have disagreements. a) Not understanding or misunderstanding of Buddha’s word. b) Trying to interpreted Teaching literally rathe...

What about ducks flying over Himalayas even before we invent the aeroplane. ;)

By the way I like your location “earth”. it is very enlightening.
My dream is to see that we all live in this earth as one happy family. (including animals)
