Re: How do you/did you tell unsupportive parents?

Well, I had told them once that I was thinking about doing that one day. They thought I had lost it and that I had issues with myself. They would respect it though and support the choice if I made it. I do still think about it. Even having a job/career now, It seems such a pointless life and I will ...

Re: Why not brain-scan an Aharant? Benefits for science & Dhamma

Though it is an interesting idea i think there is a slight problem here. Most neurologists wouldn't be monks and monks aren't allowed to report their "progress" to lay people or other non-monks. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this would make it very difficult to do. http://www.accesstoinsight.org/lib/...

Re: Uposatha Observance Club

Thanks for the links, but I already used the first one trying to get an answer for this. From there I know that beds about 18-20cm high are allowed. More precisely: it linked to http://www.accesstoinsight.org/lib/authors/thanissaro/bmc1/bmc1.ch12.html#app-II" onclick="window.open(this.href);return f...

Re: Uposatha Observance Club

Thanks, that's an idea :)

Alas I do not have one yet. I will get something for the next Uposatha, but I have presently nothing here.

Wait, I could use the mattress from my old bed and lay that on the floor. :?

Hello from The Netherlands

I'm Ytrog (A.K.A. Hans) and I'm trying to practice the dhamma. I'm not completely new at this , but I've had problems keeping myself motivated at times. I've been practicing on-and-off for about 4 years (though thankfully mostly on). Where I live there is absolutely no sangha, so I had to do everyth...

Re: Uposatha Observance Club

Hi all. I just registered and this is the first time I try to observe an uposatha day. How do you all deal with the eigth precept? I don't really have alternatives to my bed and it's definately higher than the allowed 18-20cm. What to do?

Many thanks and with metta :)
