Buddhadasa talks

Anyone know any links of any talks by Ajahn Buddhadasa? From the little I know about him, he seems right up my street.

Quotes

Lots of people quotes Sutta's or their favourite quotes underneath their messages on here. How do you do that?

Re: Where to focus

Ok thanks. By the way I've noticed some people put their favourite quotes at the bottom of their messages. How do you do that?

Where to focus

When one is focussing on the breath for meditation is it best to focus on the abdomen to make sure you're breathing correctly? As someone who suffers from anxiety I notice I breath a lot from my chest, and the breaths are often shallow. I know it's often said one should not try and manipulate the br...

In the realm of the Hungry Ghost (Song)

Here's a song I wrote. It's meant to be in part a quirky protrayal while at the same time an allagory of my addiction to alcohol.

Re: Children who remember their past lives as monks

I didn't want to start a new topic on this, but did Ajahn Buddhadasa reject rebirth?

Re: Interesting Thought - Painkillers? Anti-depressants?

I take anti depressants because a professional doctor and therapist want advise me too. To say that someone suffers from depression because they don't follow the dharma is ridiculous.

Don't grieve

I was watching a youtube clip of a Monk, can't remember his name Yattumundo or something? An American Thai forest monk. He mentioned that it was wrong to grieve when a loved one dies. Now I hate to take issue with a monk, but surely grieving is natural and that if you force yourself not to grieve yo...

Re: Throat discomfort

Yes when I don't focus on the breath at all I feel much more comfortable. From the instructions in a book by Ajahn Chah he mentions the breath is the only thing you need to focus on, yet to me this seems more like samatha than Vipassana? I've heard very different instructions as to what Vipassana ac...

Throat discomfort

I don't know why I get this, but when I do breath concentration I always have an uncomfortable feeling on my throat/neck on exhalations. It's not painful, it's just uncomfortable and I keep on having to adjust my jumper or t shirt, if my neck is bare at all I don't like it. I'm starting to get a bit...

Re: Quiz

I like Therevada because of Vipassana and because of Ajahn Buddhadassa, I like Zen due to it's pantheistic and altruistic nature. Not into Tibetan at all though.

Quiz

Anyone know any quizzes are questionnaires for helping you decide what kind of Buddhist you might be? I've been torn between Zen and Theravada for a long time and it's quite conflicting. I took some silly little quiz which wasn't very good, but it said I was theravada. I wouldn't mind a more in dept...

Re: Theravada and Zen sitting practice

You have to remember that Jhana's aren't spoken about in Zen, because in Zen practice there is nothing to attain. According to Zen, you have already attained it, you just haven't realised it, whereas with theravada it's believed you have to work for it. That's my opinion anyway.

Evolution

Is there anything in any scriptures, Theravada OR Mahayana that might even suggest anything to do with evolution? And in regards to different planes of existence, animal and human realms I guess don't have such a sharp distinction. I'm guessing at the time of The Buddha, humans were considered not t...
