Re: The Right to Refuse Donation
In Burma some monks refused donations from certain generals because of how the Muslims were being treated there.

Re: Is the nature of the mind is ignorance?
I think the most widely held view, backed up by teachings, is that realization of bodhi would not be possible if it were not the mind’s true nature. You can slice open a thousand onions and never find a single pearl because onions are not mollusks. Similarly, if the realized mind was not already in...

Re: Identity View
No that was arguing / showing in favour to let go that kind of conceptualizing. That’s because ‘more truth’ is beyond thoughts. And I would like to point to that perspective/ state of mind somehow. From my perspective it’s just not helpful to state or to imply qualities without an object. Only more...

Re: Is the nature of the mind is ignorance?
Is the nature of the mind is ignorance? Venerable Seelawimala said that the nature of our mind is ignorance and it is not possible to see it. However, we can see the angry mind and the mind with attachment. Even if you are in a highly meditative mental state you still have the ignorance. So how do ...

Re: Disrespecting Vipassana
Exactly where does the Buddha teach that a more & more minute examination of impermanence results in seeing 'reality'. For a start, the Buddha wasn't interested in sub atomic 'reality' and as for all the other nonsense... kundalini, energies, gaps of peace etc. it's just 🤢 99% of the Buddha's t...

Re: European Buddhism
Same reasons it is not taking off in USA. I’m a middle aged white guy in Texas and when people find out I’m Buddhist, they look at me like I have 3 heads. Most people identify with whatever religion they were raised to believe in. They are conditioned and do not question or reject the conditioning....

Re: the great rebirth debate
Is there a pre-Samsara state of being? If we are all going around in Samsara because we are clinging to existence, and we can leave by becoming enlightened, how did we get into Samsara to begin with? Is it eternal or were we born into it from somewhere else? It’s without discoverable beginning. So ...

If enlightenment means leaving the cycle of birth and death, how does one enter it to begin with? What do you mean? Is there a pre-Samsara state of being? If we are all going around in Samsara because we are clinging to existence, and we can leave by becoming enlightened, how did we get into Samsar...

Re: the great rebirth debate
If people were transmigrating between human and animal births, they would be proportional and we could try to measure that. Wouldn't we see a decrease in animal populations if more humans are being born, and vice-versa? That doesn't necessarily follow. Finite or infinite doesn't really matter, as w...

Re: Identity View
The self is used to abandon the self for bigger self - better identification. (identifying where there is no identification) Good Vedanta but bad Buddhadhamma, and bad Classical Theravāda. non-sequitor Hardly. What you just said is classic Vedanta. We don't see anything like that in the suttas, and...
