Re: Sexual intercourse with other woman with the consent of wife
fake sutta? I never posted in ancient times some men did not have many wives. However, in an attempt to depart from the lack of empathy for women on this thread which hinders entry into the path, i merely asked did any devout stream-entry lay followers of the Buddha have many wives? Now the sutta y...

Re: Sexual intercourse with other woman with the consent of wife
There is a story of two brothers ordaining the younger one had 3 wives and the other had 7. The younger brother disrobed after being seduced by his 3 wives and the 7 also tried to seduce the Arahant but obv to no vail. Perhaps someone knows where it is from i don't remember, probably Dhammapada tho...

Re: Sexual intercourse with other woman with the consent of wife
some people have several wives y'know and they are faithful to several wives. Where? Who? Please quote a lay follower of the Buddha with several wives? Thanks In AN 6.52 , the Buddha said a woman does not want to share a husband with another woman. Women have a man as their ambition. They explore f...

Re: Sexual intercourse with other woman with the consent of wife
In my opinion he would technically be in the clear... :reading: In five ways, young householder, should a wife as the West be ministered to by a husband: (i) by being courteous to her, (ii) by not despising her, (iii) by being faithful to her , (iv) by handing over authority to her, (v) by providin...

Re: Sexual intercourse with other woman with the consent of wife
...he can have sexual intercourse with other woman to meet his biological need. This sounds very theoretical. Who or what exactly is this "other woman"? Does this other woman have any feelings, emotions & eventually expectations when having sex with the man? Or is the "other woma...

Re: Vinnanam Anidassanam
How to read it: Here, [ cravings for ] long & short coarse & fine fair & foul name & form - are all brought to an end. Obviously not. I would suggest to learn what Brahmanism was and then verse may be understood. Essentially, you seem to be asserting the Buddha taught about a secret...

Re: The cholesterol myth
I will probably reduce tahini, hemp seeds & coconut oil a little. Tahini & hemp seeds feel so nutritious when eaten! I just did some quick research on the above and its probably coconut oil i need to reduce to 2 tablespoons per day and keep avocado to 1 per day (most recommend 1/2 per day),...

Re: Why many Buddhist monks are over weight?
I posted an update on phrase 2 of my new eating regime, here . Overall, my weight has dropped 15 kg over the last 2 years however over the last 3 months I am eating close to the minimum. The point I wish to make is often I reflect on the Buddha's teaching, which is to eat to get through to the next ...

Re: The cholesterol myth
OK. Providing an update since my last post. 1. Started using coconut oil (but possibly consume too much because I drisle it on streamed veggies with not frying). 2. Stopped all fruits & orange juice except fruits low in fructose, such as lemon, lime, avocado, paw paw, strawberry, guava, rockmelo...

Re: Vinnanam Anidassanam
Vinnanam anidassanam is just a clean, jhanic, 100% defilement-free arahant's consciousness, which can be called "nibbana with a residue", because this is a state of consciousness, when greed, hatred and delustion are destroyed (as explained by Ven. Sariputta in SN 38.1). There is no evide...

Re: Vinnanam Anidassanam
If referred to DN11, MN 49, it will explain to the sceptics, that vinnam snidassam means a consciousness of an arhant or an arya puggala. In MN 49, Brahma seeks the Buddha to follow the practise of Brahma, namely: So, mendicant, I tell you this: you will never find another escape beyond this, and y...

Re: Which translation do you prefer: V Thanissaro or V Bodhi's ?
maybe would someone give me a list of the controversial translations bhikkhu bodhi has made I can't think of too many off the top of my head & will wait for others to post examples, such as the example discussed from AN 10.58 (however, AN 10.58 is generally universally translated contrary to th...

Re: Which translation do you prefer: V Thanissaro or V Bodhi's ?
It appears the term Nibbānogadha is found in Pali dictionaries but not found in any sutta. Looks like I was wrong above:  ;) For extinguishment is the culmination, destination, and end of the spiritual life. Nibbānogadha ñhi, rādha, brahmacariyaṃ vussati, nibbānaparāyanaṃ nibbānapariyosānan”...
