Re: Buddhist Cryptids and Deities
Thank you Venerable, Sir! This is absolutely a pleasure to read. I am just so fascinated by the many realms and was surprised by the many qualities of Utarakuru and the Chakravartin Emperor. Is there a similar texts that elucidate examples of Devatā whose qualities we should be recollecting when we ...

Buddhist Cryptids and Deities
What are some of the cool non human non animal entities in Buddhist Cosmology and what are the names of those Gods that play the most important roles in the 32 realms of Saṃsāra? I know Tavatimsa should have 33 but I don't know which 33 they are and I know they mentioned a few Gods like Brāhma Saham...

Re: Questions on Asura (Demon) Plane of existence
The word demon for Asura is a misnomer. Asura are more like the Titans and the Devas like the Olympians as an idea of the Western parallel.

Re: Fire/Lotus buds on Buddha statues
It might be from that time he subdued the angry Naga in Uruvela Kassapa's shrine. One time the Buddha used essentially samādhi as flames to deflect the flames that an angry Naga tried to fling at him and it let loose a glowing flaming aura that just turned the Naga into a harmless snake and he just ...

But I'm the child of Hispanic immigrants so I'm not sure if that counts. I'm not a child of any South Asian people though. Central and South American, but uh, technically I'm Central American indigenous.

Re: Population of women in theravada communities
I'm a woman and people who show up at my meditation center are also pretty balanced out with men and women, but there's still more women.

Re: THE DISCOURSE ON THE ROOT OF EXISTENCE The Muliapariyaya Sutta and its Commentaries
I think this Sutta is pretty interesting as it talks about how we objectify things and then imagine our relationship with them. Anything, including Nibbāna can be falsely imagined into existence and personalized so that the experience feels real, but the real thing is not actually experienced. It is...

Theravadin Cultural Practices
What are some unique cultural practices in Theravadin Countries you know about that the average layman might not be familiar with? I can think of a few things I know about for example of Phra Mae Thorani is the witness to the Buddha's rout of Mara's army, and that the Four Heavenly Kings are guardia...

The fetters to Stream Entry
So far I'm able to identify what the fetters to Stream Entry are: Sīlabbata-parāmāsa and Sīlabbata-upādāna How does one define it, what are some examples? What are the kinds of things that qualify as pointless rites and rituals so that I can be cautious to know what are pointless and how does one re...

Re: Non-sapmajañña varieties of sati
There's a decent amount if one interprets miccha sati to be attention to wrong things. Think of a thief preparing for a great heist. They have plenty of their awareness to attention to all things around them, for all the wrong reasons, as it's all in the pursuit of a wrong goal. So yeah, technically...
