Re: Why do women not involve in war?

Same reason sports are seperated by men and womens. Traditionally it was always men who went to war and for good reason. Before firearms most wars were fought with melee weapons such as swords and spears which scale with the users strength. Because there is a general gap in strength between men and ...

Re: what does brahmacariya (celibacy) look like?

Friend, it’s mental action that is akusala. It feeds delusion regarding the constancy and beauty of these bodies, and it of course feeds greed for what is perceived as beautiful/constant the visuddhimagga only classifies sexual misconduct as akusala kamma, not all sexual activity. Sexual activity i...

Re: what does brahmacariya (celibacy) look like?

Well, no this is factually untrue. The dhammika sutta is a discourse given to lay people. In it, Buddha says that a wise man should avoid sex like a pit of hot coals. I understand it’s not a requirement for laity as we don’t have a vinaya but we still bear the kamma. A wise man should avoid unchast...

Re: what does brahmacariya (celibacy) look like?

Homosexuality isn't a modern thing. Ancient Rome has evidence of homosexuality. And no celibacy is more than revulsion toward procreation because you can do non procreative sex acts even without birth control or homosexuality and those are still considered against brahmacairya

Re: what does brahmacariya (celibacy) look like?

Brahmacariya looks like full abstinence from sensual pleasures. the way a brahma being has no interest in the senses and gets its joy purely from jhanic bliss. Full celibacy is best, but not necessary. Sex is not encouraged among lay people, it is simply allowed, it is a distraction to your path but...

Re: Taking Refuge question

"All Powerful" God is a bit of a stretch as Theravada (and most Buddhist schools really) believes we are heir to our own actions and karma is a natural force that guides ppl to thier next rebirth, rather than some kind of powerful entity making judgements. All powerful also implies you hav...

Re: It is very rare to hear Buddhist talks in English about what happens after death.

Agreed. the next life is actually extremely important. Westerners like to think they only focus on "practical" Buddhism by focusing on the here and now. In reality Buddhist teachers who discuss the next life are very practical, just in a different way. Just as it is wise for a student to p...

Re: is giving money to parents so they live independently is enough?

nothing short of bringing them to the Dhamma will be enough to repay the debt of gratitude owed to your parents. As to how to care for your parents if that option isnt on the table. Just do your best. Also not all parents even want thier children to stay with them in thier old age and just prefer th...

Re: Bhikkhus and taxation

yeah, i mean choosing the religion that ends up being right is hard. Theres no way to verify a religion without dying. Just because something makes sense intellectually doenst make it true. But in Buddhism you can verify it b4 dying, by practicing it. So you have attained stream entry? You can veri...

Re: Bhikkhus and taxation

Practice what exactly? How does one choose what to practice? By following one's gut feeling? Are you joking? Practice Buddhism and the noble eightfold path. You didn't answer my other two questions. You severely criticize people for presumably "not practicing", but you dodge the complexit...

Re: Bhikkhus and taxation

The solution is simple: having an official state religion. Why would that solve anything? It would render the issue of taxing religion moot. State religion is a guaranteed way to dystopia. Politicians in states where church and state arent separated already try to meddle in the religion all the tim...

Re: Kamma, Eugenics and the Five Niyamas

It was around that time where eugenics got a kinda universally bad name. similar to socialism in America and the cold war. No, that can be traced far further back, to the Southern defenders (!!) of slavery who presented slavery as a good thing. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slavery_as_a_positive_go...

Its unethical because it became associated with the Nazis, and western society uses that as the default evil thing in the world when they dont have a real argument they just say like Hitler, or like the Nazis. https://www.dhammawheel.com/viewtopic.php?p=675751#p675751 We already do eugenics on farm...
