Re: How do you use audio sutta recordings?

Love the reading.. Please make it sound realistic as if the Buddha is giving a discourse..and have someone else read the part where the other asked him questions..Just a suggestion. But it is nice so far. I would love to listen to recordings like that. Not sure how this would be possible without a ...

Re: How Hard Is It To Learn Pali?

I used my own dead-key keyboard layout for several years but then ran into some software that would not accept the keystrokes. Also, XP can be kind of fussy about using different keyboards(don't know if that is fixed in Win7) Now I recommend an Autohotkey script written by Bhante Anandajoti that you...

How do you use audio sutta recordings?

I'm interested in hearing how people make use of audio recordings of suttas(like the ones found on audtip.org etc.) Do you listen to them actively, or in the background? At home or when you are out (driving, commuting, etc)? Do you have a regular practice of listening every day? Do you read along wi...

Re: Vinaya Anthology

As a point of clarification, the books titled "Vinaya Texts" vols 1-3 was translated by T.W. Rhys Davids and Herman Oldenberg. [1881-5] and seems to contain the patimokkha(rules only no stories) and the Khandakas. The Khandakas do contain background stories, but not to the patimokkha rules. If you s...

Re: Dhammacakka Sutta in Pali

When you say unabridged, do you mean a version that has the complete text for each of the heavenly realms mentioned at the end? The wiki link above seems to have them, but I suspect this is from the SLTP (Sri Lanka Tipitaka Project) version of the BJT(Buddha Jayanti edition) which is notorious for i...

Wisdom's Middle Length Discourses in .epub or .pdf

I'm wondering if anyone has purchased the epub or pdf versions of the Wisdom Publications edition of the Middle Length Discourses of the Buddha or any of the books in the Word of the Buddha series. I'm not talking about the Kindle/mobi edition but the .epub to be read on something like a Nook. I fou...

Re: Reading tipps for a beginner - Pali canon!

I've been working on a website with tips encouraging people to develop a daily practice with the suttas. http://www.readingfaithfully.org As others have said, In the Buddha's Words in an excellent choice. If you are willing to commit to a half an hour a day of reading, you could also start right in ...

Re: Fantastic free ebooks

I have compiled a list of Sutta e-books(epub/mobi) here, although not all are free: http://readingfaithfully.org/book-sources/sutta-pitaka-e-books-epub-mobi-kindle/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I'm surprised that Bhante Anandajoti's huge collection of epub/mobi English Sutta transl...
