Re: Any real life examples these days of Tetralemma (Catuskoti) fourfold negation? What would be the fifth ('true') corn
Coëmgenu brought two posts....I will comment on them here. The first post is: For the sake of argument, in your last post, the controverted point is: "Now then, Master Kaccana, does the Tathagata exist after death?" I'll highlight the negation in the response: "Vaccha, that has not b...

Re: Living with a toxic possibly narcisistic wife
Just another point of view or two.... You ended one relationship involving children....why not just end this one too? It is of course not ideal to do this but it seems unlikely that anything resembling an ideal will be coming whatever you do. It might be that the most important thing for you is to m...

Re: Eternal citta in "Theravada"? ---> probably Found.
Ajahn Martin ---> I really doubt that the buddha said this. Everytime that I have seen in the suttas where questions about the tatthagatha's existence (or lack of existence) after death is discussed it is indicated that the buddha did not take a position as to their truth (or lack of truth)....ever...

Ajahn Martin ---> Just remember what the Lord Buddha said, the Thatagata after dead neither is nor is not. I really doubt that the buddha said this. Everytime that I have seen in the suttas where questions about the tatthagatha's existence (or lack of existence) after death is discussed it is indic...

Re: Renunciation ripens in attachment
And what is right thought that is accompanied by defilements, has the attributes of good deeds, and ripens in attachment? Thoughts of renunciation, good will, and harmlessness. This is right thought that is accompanied by defilements. When I first read the OP I had no idea as to where in the suttas...

Re: Advices for investing money.
Ideally I'd want to invest in something "good" (like a company who makes real efforts toward the environment or don't kill animals, etc.) but I wouldn't necessary mind investing in something neutral. I don't see why this requires discussion. Go find a "good" company as you descr...

Re: Any real life examples these days of Tetralemma (Catuskoti) fourfold negation? What would be the fifth ('true') corn
To continue on after my last post....here is an excerpt from another sutta presentation of the exist/no-exist tetralemma: SN44.11 () "Now then, Master Kaccana, does the Tathagata exist after death?" "Vaccha, that has not been declared by the Blessed One: 'The Tathagata exists after de...

Re: Tetralemma simplified part 3
For those people who have not had any training in logic etc. I hope that now you have a better grasp of the strucuture of the tetralemma especially as it can be seen to be an example of a truth table. There is a requirement that a tetralemma must satisfy which is not strictly required of truth tabl...

Re: Ñāṇavīra Thera
Greetings, My sense is that Bhikkhu Bodhi "talks past" Nanavira in his critique, mostly because he hasn't really understood what is being argued and admittedly goes into the "debate" for the purpose of defending the 3-lifetime interpretation of paticcasamuppada, rather than to u...

Re: Tetralemma simplified part 2
With my previous post as background and explanation of the structure of a truth table and my claim that the tetralemma has the same structure as the truth table.....with that I'll move to the tetralemma itself. There is more than one occurance of the tetralemma in the suttas and I will use the one ...
