Re: Where in china to meditate?
If you are looking for a good place to do your own practice then I think there might be many places. If, on the other hand, you are looking for a good teacher in the Theravada tradition then might I suggest U Mahinda. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5DKmlkzvP8 Sorry, I don't have any information as...

Re: new format?
SOLVED... I have been using a desktop and monitor, and I had been using a screen-size that was too large to see the OP's moniker. A little zoom-out and it re-appears. Sorry for my false alarm.

new format?
I didn't get the memo, so I was surprised to see that the threads now omit the OP's identity, and only list the name of the last person to post. So it looks like I will be lured into threads started by a couple of serial papanca-meisters who I would normaly avoid. Can I ask the reason for the change?

refererence to laywoman with psychic powers
I don't know if it is in the Canon or the commentaries, but I am looking for a reference to a story about a laywoman, who, during the Buddha's time, fed monks with the food they liked best by reading their minds. I tried the search feature with no luck. Ditto with other search engines.

Assuming "nikayas" refers to the Sutta Pitaka collections, why only four? Last time I checked there were five.

I liked the video of the woman spinning cotton. Always interesting to listen to someone talk about something they know well from direct experience.

Re: Mantra in Theravada (aside from Buddho)
Yeah well "Wikipedia"... " Buddhism probably borrowed the concept from Hinduism.[1][3] The statue of a Hindu holy man with beads dates to the third century BC.[3][7]" Buddha Dhamma already well established by this time; so it's a toss-up as to who appropriated what from whom. Bes...

Re: Ciggarettes
Hello Shan Yin, I don't know if this will be of any use since it is a personal idiosyncratic way in which I managed to keep off the smokes. I used to work a job that was seemingly more easily done with coffee and cigarettes on hand. But I had another life in which I would take time off to do meditat...
